Is Neosporin safe for my dog's wound after she licked stitches out?

I actually would not recommend putting anything topical on it if he can potentially lick it off. Neosporin is not particularly toxic if a small amount is ingested but it won't have a chance to work if your dog is licking. I'd recommend putting an e-collar on him to keep him from licking. If there is a raw spot or other skin lesion it would be a good idea to have your vet take a look - he might need oral medications for it to resolve. I doubt he would need anesthesia unless there is a skin growth that is there.

As far as I can see the wound looks fine at this stage. Cone should be kept all times unfortunately, as licking can delay healing process and open up skin margins. There is no acceptable amount of licking, the wound can open up any time. Hi there. Generally speaking, Neosporin is okay to use in dogs - but if you want to be extra safe, you could always get an antibiotic spray labeled for use in dogs, like Nutri-Vet or Vetericyn. Your local pet store should have some options like this, if you want to pick something up.

I would not recommend applying neosporin without the direct prescription from your vet. Cats are prone to grooming and ingesting ointments and can have significant side effects. Antibiotic dreams will not improve healing in healthy wounds and should not be used unless the wound has an infection, in which case oral or injectable medications are usually preferred

I would make sure she isn't licking it and not being too active. I would keep her confined to a crate or small bathroom and only take her out on a leash for short walks to go to the bathroom. You can put a cone collar on her to prevent the licking. From the picture, they do look a litte red but otherwise it looks good. You can put a little neosporin or bacitracin on the area as long as it doesn't attract her attention to it. If she is leaving it alone, then the ointment will likely make her lick it and that isn't ideal. I hope this helps.
