Why is my Miniature Schnauzer still chewing her skin raw with bumps?

Based on what you are describing, and the pictures, I suspect that Willow may have an infection with ectoparasites, such as mites or fleas, that are causing her to be itchy. Your veterinarian can perform a skin scrape and evaluate the cells under a microscope to look for evidence of infectious agents. Please ensure that Willow is on a monthly topical flea and tick preventative that you purchase from your veterinarian; NOT one that can be purchased from a pet or grocery store, as these are not regulated and can be very toxic to pets. Willow could also have allergic skin disease, secondary to food or environmental agents. You can talk to your veterinarian about trying a diet trial to determine if Willow's itchy skin resolves on a particular novel protein diet. The thickened ears can be due to chronic ear infections, so your veterinarian will be able to examine the waxy debris under a microscope and prescribe the appropriate medication based on whether they see bacteria and/or yeast in Willow's ears. He could have "Schnauzer pyoderma" which is a skin infection, he could have a bacterial infection, he could have a local irritation such is an allergic reaction, or he could even have the start of a fungal infection. Sometimes a medicated pet shampoo helps other times oral antibiotics are needed. It is unlikely to be related to the tick. I would watch him for any signs of lateness are limping or pain as there are some diseases that could be spread by tick bites.

I'm sorry to hear that Trixie is also so itchy with these skin issues. Odds are good that she's likely experiencing underlying allergies to fleas, food, or something in her environment. When dogs itch excessively, they damage the outer layer of the skin and can cause skin infections to occur. That said, it's also possible that the underlying culprit of Trixie's issue could be associated with ringworm, mange, or some autoimmune issues. The lesions pictured don't look like growths to me. At this point, Trixie really needs to visit her vet for a full exam to try to get to the underlying cause so that an appropriate course of treatment can be started. Odds are good that she'll need oral antibiotics, anti-itch medications, and good quality flea prevention - potentially in addition to other medications. I hope that everything goes well!

The first thing to do is figure out the underlying reason for the skin problems. Those spots on Ariel could be several things including allergies to fleas, allergies to something in the environment, food allergy or endocrine disease. Each one of these problems is detected and addressed differently and I recommend to discuss with your veterinarian which one to start hunting down first. Parasites are often ruled out with an oral medication like Simparica. Food allergy is best ruled out with a diet trial using a hydrolyzed protein. Endocrine diseases are detected with blood work. Environmental allergies are a little more difficult to detect but a response to therapy or a blood test can give an indication. Once you figure out and address the underlying cause, the lesions should not come back. There are a couple things you can do at home and they can help but they may not address the underlying cause. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing her diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. Also protect the area from trauma by having Ariel wear an elizabethan collar at all times if needed. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

This looks like it can be a skin infection. I would recommend taking Blue to a veterinarian to have them evaluate her skin. She will most likely need antibiotics and medication to help with the itch. Charlie Ferreira looks like she may have a chronic bacterial/yeast skin infection +/-mange (from skin mites), likely secondary to chronic inflammation from environmental and/or food allergies. I recommend seeing a new vet perhaps, and starting her on an oral flea/tick preventative such as Simparica, NexGard, or Bravecto that also treats mange and will cover the cause of flea allergy dermatitis if she does have fleas. In addition, she may benefit from a 2 week course of an oral skin antibiotic such as Simplicef, a medicated antibacterial/antifungal shampoo such as Malaseb twice weekly for 1-2 months, and either a daily/year round allergy pill called Apoquel and/or a monthly allergy injection such as Cytopoint. Gradually switching her to an allergy diet such as Hills z/d or Royal Canin Ultamino at the same time or within a week symptoms don’t improve on NexGard, Simplicef, Malaseb and Apoquel will likely give you the best chance of resolving her discomfort and symptoms. Poor girl. This looks like classic allergic dermatitis which is likely due to an adverse reaction to something in her environment. She now has an odor due to a secondary bacterial or yeast infection. She will need to see your vet to have the skin tested to determine the kind of infection, then started on medication to clear this up. She will also need allergy medication to help calm down the itchiness and redness. Two viable options for most dogs with skin allergies are either oral Apoqeul or injectable Cytopoint. There is also allergy testing available through your vet, if you are interested in getting allergy shots formulated for Maggie.
