When do large mixed dogs become seniors and what's their lifespan?

Larger dogs do age more quickly than smaller dogs. In the case if your dogs I would say your seven-year-old is ‘middle-aged’ and would consider him a senior dog at about 9 or 10 years of age. The larger dog, Tasha I would say would be middle-aged at about 6 years old. And would consider her a senior dog at age 7 or 8. However, keep in mind, regular veterinary check up and routine preventative healthcare your dogs will have their best chance to live long and happy lives.

There is no way at all of predicting how long any of us will be alive; most medium-large dogs can have a life expectancy of 9-11years but if he is in good health continue to monitor closely, feed well, exercise regularly and consider annual check up and blood tests to identify any health concerns early

Hello there! The average age of dogs, in general, is 8-12 years. This can vary greatly depending on the dog's breed, size, and medical conditions. Larger breed dogs, for example, tend to have shorter lifespans as their size takes a bigger toll on their bones and joints. Popular purebred dogs, like labs, boxers, and golden retrievers, also have a higher incidence of certain conditions and types of cancers which may shorten their lifespan. Its all really just genetics and also certain breeds tend to live longer than others. Just like in people, disease and life threatening illness can hit at any age in life. Also preventative care medicine can play a huge factor in your pets lifespan as well. So its best to keep up with preventative vaccines, dental care, heartworm and flea prevention. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Copper. I would suspect that he is mixed with another breed. That is very large for a Labrador. Most male labs weight between 65-85 pounds at an ideal weight. Some will be bigger and some smaller, but is a pretty consistent average. If he is mixed with a larger or giant breed dog, I would suspect his life span to be closer to those breeds. Most giant breed dogs live 8-10 years. You can do an at home DNA test though if you are interested. I hope this information helps!

Small dogs can live up to 15 years of age, with some dogs living up to 18 or even 20. It truly depends on any underlying health conditions and how they are managed. In general, mixed breed dogs tend to be somewhat less susceptible to hereditary conditions. However, maltese can be predisposed to heart conditions such as valve abnormalities, ocular conditions such as glaucoma, and allergies. Terriers are a very broad category of breeds, but typically have the same predispositions. Please note that just because a dog is predisposed to something, does not mean that it will have the condition at any point in life.
