Is hydrogen peroxide safe for cleaning my dog's neuter incision?

If there is a lot of discharge around the incision, you could use a small amount of peroxide or just some warm water to clean the around the area. You don't want to irritate the incision more so don't rub or pick the discharge/scabs. Then apply the spray as directed. If there isn't a lot of discharge than you could just use the spray as directed.

I would not recommend cleaning the incision. You can take a dry towel and gently spat dry the incision. I would monitor Snoopys incision for any discharge , swelling or smell. If this occurs I would recommend taking Snoopy into the vet to have the incision re checked. Hope that helps

Hydrogen peroxide can work well to clean up organic debris (like dirt or feces), but unfortunately it also can inhibit healing so I do not recommend using it for cleaning wounds. I would recommend talking to your veterinarian about what you could use to keep the area around this tumor clean. If you have not yet seen a veterinarian I would definitely encourage you to do so to discuss what the tumor might be and what treatments are recommended.

Hello. I have never heard of leaving a dog neuter incision open like this. We do it in cats & horses, but not dogs. If this is your veterinarians practice, then he should have sent home a Elizabethan cone to prevent Cutty from getting to & licking the incision. Personally, I do not like the way it looks & really think it needs to be cleaned up & sutured closed. Until you can see your vet, please purchase a protective collar to keep him from licking & clean the area 2-3 times daily with a povidone-iodine or chlorhexidine skin cleanser. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They can flush it and clean it well and start him on antibiotics. He will get better on the right therapy. They can also examine him for possible causes of vomiting such as gastroenteritis and perhaps start him on something for nausea. Have a good night!

Yes, it would be equal parts of hydrogen peroxide and water. That mixture is only to be used around the drains to keep them open. The fluid will drain from around the tubes, not from the inside of the tubes. Keeping the area clean around the tubes is most important. Do not use the peroxide mixture it on the incision itself. We normally recommend waiting 2 weeks after surgery before bathing/getting the incision wet. If you are just cleaning the area next to the incision with a cloth this would be ok, but I wouldn't clean the actual incision itself for two more days to play it safe.
