Is Hills i/d chicken stew good for sensitive dogs, sugar included?

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Many spaniels have sensitive stomachs as well as skin in my experience. If Chloe is doing well on the food, with no diarrhea or upset stomach, I personally do not have a problem with it. I like a food that is within the ratios of protein to fat as you have said-with the caveat of patients that deal with things like irritable bowel or chronic pancreatitis, in which I make the fat as low as possible while still being a healthy food source for our canine companions. While you have said you aren't a fan of many commercial diets-there are types that cater specifically to sensitive stomach and food allergies from many of our large brands-and if you don't like these there are comparable brands as well that you can find at your local Petco. If Chloe is having active issues with this particular food, please let us know and we can suggest a comparable diet. I find that probiotics often work well for my sensitive GI patients as well. Fortiflora is commercially available and has a high palatability when tested. I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Tater-Tot (great name!) I am sorry that she is not doing well. It is hard when senior dogs stop wanting to eat the food that agrees with them the most. Since she has a sensitive stomach and likes the stews, I would ask your Vet about Hill's i/d stew. It is prescription but it is an intestinal diet so she may tolerate it better. Also Weruva makes a human grade canned food called Funcky chicken that is human grade. Looks like chicken soup, I have heard that 90% of dogs that don't want to eat will eat that. I wish you the best

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! While you could do this longterm, it would have to be supplemented with a more balanced diet. For example, you could consider switching Izzy to a diet of chicken and white rice combined with a dry diet such as Hill's zd which would be good for inflammatory bowel disease. Since Cash is a small dog, you might consider one of the more expensive options such as a dehydrated or fresh food diet. They are able to control their ingredients much more easily than a large manufacturing plant does that makes dry food. I have been very pleased with The Honest Kitchen ( https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/ ) and Just Food For Dogs ( https://www.justfoodfordogs.com/ ). Both have foods that will not have chicken and both have options without any poultry. You do not have to worry about the potential addition of chicken fat which a number of dry food companies do as well. If those are not good options for Cash, then you may consider a canned food which again will generally be safer than a dry food at making sure there isn't any chicken contamination. Hill's i/d is an intestinal diet that is easy for a dog to digest. There are other intestinal diets that might be less expensive, like Science Diet sensitive stomach. Ask your vet for his/her recommendation for a more affordable diet before deciding to change. Also, ask your vet if you could just add extra fiber to your dogs diet, like some canned pumpkin.

But Chloe's stool may look the same on both diets. The stool is normal in each picture, so I'm not sure what the goal with her stool is. I hope this helps!
