How can I help my new rescue hound settle and reduce his anxiety?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered

We have a pitbull. He is very hyper and still needs training. We recently found a hound dog and are taking care of him at least for now. The hound is very skittish, skinny, and exhausted. The pit is very concerned and hyper and playfull. The hound won't settle down in the kennel but the pit is used to it, even though he doesn't like it. What is the best course of action? Today I will be by myself with the two dogs and the four cats for A good 7-8 hours.

It sounds like Bailey may benefit from addressing anxiety. Neutering can also help. Stick to a routine and give him time. Bailey may not have anxiety but there is still good information:

Ask your veterinarian if any medication or supplements may help as well. I hope this helps.
