Can my healthy dog eat Royal Canin Satiety weight management food?

Aww, they are a pretty adorable pair! The short answer is, 'yes," that is fine. This will not harm your other dog to be on long term as well. The longer answer is that if he is a working dog, or is a very athletic dog (regularly goes for 3+mile runs, does agility, etc) then a less protein restricted maintenance diet would be better for him. It has been around for a very long time, and the company performs a large amount of testing to confirm that the food has the appropriate levels of nutrients. The weight control diet likely has a larger amount of fiber in it to keep Chloe satisfied longer. To help Chloe lose weight, you can also cut down the treats and replace with things like ice cubes, string beans, or baby carrots in small amounts. I hope this helps!

If it is your only option, I think you are fine feeding the Maxi adult food. I am not as concerned with large breed vs medium breed vs small breed in adult dogs as I am in puppies. The biggest difference in these adult diets are the size of the kibble (the bigger the better, in my opinion!) and possibly the fat content. You may need to adjust how much you are feeding Heisenberg (use the guidelines on the bag) and his body condition.

Royal Canin is an excellent food, and I highly recommend it. I strongly urge the switch especially if the Merricks is grain free. There is a suspected link between grain free diets and an increase in dilated cardiomyopathy. The FDA is now investigating this link, and it looks like grain free diets are not good for dogs. Grains are good for dogs, and the grain free food is a fad. If you do switch food, you have to do it slowly to avoid GI upset. Start by mixing together 75% old food and 25% new food, and feed that for a couple of days. Then do 50% old and 50% new. Again feed for a couple of days, and then feed them 25% old and 75% old. After feeding that for another couple of days, you can feed them the new food only. In terms of your dog being overweight, feed according to the package instructions on the bag of food, no treats, and exercise daily. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
