How to understand Great Dane blood pressure and blood circulation?

I think it is hard for us to accurately measure blood pressure when the dogs are in the office because they are so nervous. Nervous from the car ride, waiting in waiting room with other animals, etc. If getting an accurate blood pressure on Maurice is important the see if you can leave him at the Vet for the day. then they can check his blood pressure multiple times over the course of the day. Hopefully they will get one where they think he is calm. I agree I like the blood pressure to be under 160, but I wouldn't base it on my decision on just one reading. Hope this helps!

Without a full clinical history and especially echo findings it is very difficult to advise further here - HCM is extremely rare in dogs, especially of this age and DCM or mitral valve disease and secondary changes are much more common. Many dogs will have a high blood pressure when being taken due to stress (even more so than people) and in small dogs readings can be very difficult and more than 2 readings would be recommended and after a period of acclimatization to the clinic. Referral for an echo wold be recommended

These symptoms may be his way of telling you he is uncomfortable. Pets sometimes eat grass if they have an upset tummy as well (pine sol or otherwise). So, if he has some stomach discomfort, gas, or feels nauseaus he could have these symptoms. Danes are also a breed that is more likely to develop what is called a GDV (gastric dilitation volvulus or bloat). This is where the stomach flips and this is an emergency is this happens. Unfortunately the early symptoms of this more concerning problem can also be what you are reporting (although that problem can also result in gagging/wretching, attempted vomiting, and weakness). It is good that the gum color is normal. If he doesn't seem to be feeling better soon or acts worse then i would recommend he be seen just to make sure this is not something serious. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Hello. The normal heartbeat of a dog should be around 120-160 beats per minute. If his heartrate is greater than 200 beats per minute at rest or when sleeping, this is abnormal & could be due to a conduction disorder in the heart. He may also have an abnormal rhythm that mimics a elevated heart rate. The only way to sort out what might be happening is to have your veterinarian auscultate his heart & possibly do any ECG to identify the rate & any rhythm abnormalities. Given his age and the fact that he's a giant breed dog (who typically do not live as long as other breeds of dogs), there is a chance this could be a malignant growth. It could also be a cyst, lipoma, or benign growth. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed.
