Why is my German Shepherd throwing up and not eating or drinking?

german shepard benn throwing up for a day. no food or drink for a day.

Vomiting and inappetance can be a sign of many possibly underlying conditions. It can be a sign of a problem within the GI tract such as an obstruction, inflammation (gastritis), or infection. It can also be a sign of a systemic problem such as pancreatitis, liver disease, or kidney disease. Depending on Gismo's age the likelihood of each of these possibilities varies.

Since it has been 24hrs and Gismo is still feeling ill I would recommend having him seen by your veterinarian. With continued vomiting dogs can become quite dehydrated. The veterinarian can perform an examination and look for abnormalities. Based on their examination they can discuss the need for diagnostics such as abdominal x-rays or systemic bloodwork (to look for kidney/liver abnormalities). The results of these tests can help determine the necessary treatments, which may include an injection of an anti-nausea medication, IV fluids, etc.

I would take Boozo into a vet immediately. It's very concerning that he's not eating and vomiting, and he could be suffering from a severe GI illness, a foreign body, may have eaten something rotten, pancreatitis, or parvovirus if he isn't fully vaccinated. The vet can diagnose what is causing his symptoms so he can be treated.

This is not specific to any disease, but indicates that something is either directly upsetting her stomach, or generally making her feel nauseous. It's good that she is drinking, but is somewhat concerning that she is not eating. Infections and parasites are common causes for young dogs to vomit and not eat. It's also possible that she ate something she shouldn't and is experiencing intestinal problems or a blockage because of it. There are actually numerous diseases/conditions that could cause this, so I won't be able to narrow-down the possibilities based on this description.

In order to discover the cause of this problem you will need to take Dolly to a veterinarian for an evaluation. They can help narrow-down the cause of this and provide treatment to at-least make her feel better. Considering she is not eating, I would have her evaluated sometime in the next 24 hours.

German Shepherd Dogs are prone to a variety of stomach and gut problems including exocrine pancreatitis, IBD, food allergies, plus , like every dog, can get gastro-intestinal infections. You can take her off food for about 12 hrs then feed her bland food such as boiled rice and boneless boiled chicken in small portions and divided over several small feeds /day. If she does not start to eat or cannot keep her food in , then you will need to take her to your vet for an exam and appropriate medications.

Hi there! Sorry to hear that Luna is not feeling well. The clinical signs you describe are concerning when they occur in a puppy as they can be seen with serious gastrointestinal infections such as Parvovirus. Other possibilities include intestinal worms and dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. The sooner these conditions are treated the better the outcome tends to be. For this reason, I recommend that you have Luna reevaluated since she has not improved to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. At the very least they can address dehydration if present and start her on anti-nausea medications. Good luck! Keeping my fingers crossed for your girl!

My German Shepherd is losing weight, vomiting, and has diarrhea. Why?

I am sorry to hear that your dog isn’t feeling well. Many different problems can cause the signs your are seeing. These include Addison’s disease, kidney disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and exocrine pancreatic Insufficiency , and even cancer. EPI is common in shepherds and this could certainly happen in young dogs. Ideally an examination and blood work should be done by a veterinarian for a diagnosis. If that is the problem then adding pancreatic enzymes such as Prozyme and feeding a bland diet such as hills i/d can make a big difference. Best of luck and I hope you get an answer soon. My 1-month German Shepherd puppy is vomiting. Should I see a vet?

It sounds as Jackey is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

It is possible if you switched Joys food suddenly it could cause vomiting and sever gastric upset. However if Joy is still not wanting to eat I would take her the vet for possibly a fecal and abdominal x-rays. It is possible Joy has parasites, severe gastritis or a foreign body blocking her intestines. You can try a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice for 12-24 hours is small amounts. Why is my German Shepherd puppy vomiting food and losing weight?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Alex! I would worry if Alex is able to hold down liquids but not solids. If this has been going on since you have had him then I would worry about a congenital defect causing constriction of the esophagus (PDA=patent ductus arterosis). if this is a new thing it could be intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections (especially parvo), food intolerance/allergy, or foreign body obstruction. I do not recommend human dairy products in animals as they are lactose intolerance. It is also not nutritionally appropriate for a 4 month large breed dog. I would try canned dog food or wet dry dog food in a mush. See if he can hod that down. If he can not he needs to see a Veterinarian for a work up. We are not legally allowed to diagnose and prescribe drugs over the internet as we can't examine the pet which is required to prescribe drugs. I wish you and Alex the best!
