Why is my German Shepherd puppy small, thin, and tilting his head?

head tilt is a sign of a neurological condition and it has absolutely nothing to do with "mental imbalance". A head tilt is always something that should be investigated by a veterinarian as it can point to neurological problems arising from the highly contagious distemper virus, a serious inner ear infection or a stroke or vestibular syndrome and more,,,, If your puppy has a head tilt, please immediately take it to a veterinarian. Vaccination will protect against distemper virus.

Tyson looks fine weight-wise for his age, although he is not the best quality German Shepherd Dog, which is why his head is so narrow and he is fine-boned and small. There is a good likelhood that he may not be a purebred GSD also. As for his greeting people, this is exactly what you want in your dog. I have done protection training with GSDs for 26 years, and one of the most important things potential trainees are tested for is their ability to tell threat from non-threat. The average person on the street is not a threat to you, so your dog should act exactly like a Labrador towards him. If someone were to attack you, it would be a good bet that you would see the reaction you are looking for. A dog who is mean all the time is a danger to his owner as well as others, and a lawsuit waiting to happen as well.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Oscar. I recommend that he sees a veterinarian. His fluffy hair coat makes it difficult to assess his weight from a picture. He will be examined, dewormed and started on his vaccines and likely heartworm prevention as well. His weight and diet can be discussed as well. I can't really compare the size of the front and back legs from the angle of the picture. The way she is sitting it is also hard to see her conformation or body size. Some dogs can have stunted growth as compared to other dogs in the litter from being the runt, having a congenital disorder (like a liver shunt), intestinal parasites, or from poor nutrition. I recommend that you have Sandie checked out by a vet who will be able to look at her bone size, body weight, body condition, and can perform testing to see if there is something to be done to help her catch up.

Poor guy. I would absolutely think about. Neurologist consult but the first thing that should be done is an exam by your regular vet and bloodwork/urinalysis done to rule out any other detectable underlying cause. Plus the neurologist will want to have you referred by your regular vet in order to see Oskar. Mainly what we want to rule out first is any underlying liver issue (hepatic encephalopathy or a liver shunt). Liver problems can for the most part be treated through your regular vet. Hi. I'm not sure how old she is, but yes, I recommend getting her seen for basic exam and lab work. She could still have worms even if you don't see them with the naked eye. So a fecal test to the lab would be the first step. Basic lab work to make sure liver and kidneys and electrolytes are all normal will need to be to be checkee as well. A common condition in German shepherds is exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. This is a condition in which the body isn't able to digest or absorb nutrients properly. The pets eat well and act hungry, but don't gain weight. There is a test for this condition as well. Your veterinarian will help guide the diagnostics once the exam and symptoms are reviewed. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Alex! I would worry if Alex is able to hold down liquids but not solids. If this has been going on since you have had him then I would worry about a congenital defect causing constriction of the esophagus (PDA=patent ductus arterosis). if this is a new thing it could be intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections (especially parvo), food intolerance/allergy, or foreign body obstruction. I do not recommend human dairy products in animals as they are lactose intolerance. It is also not nutritionally appropriate for a 4 month large breed dog. I would try canned dog food or wet dry dog food in a mush. See if he can hod that down. If he can not he needs to see a Veterinarian for a work up.
