Will my German Shepherd fight a new puppy? How to prevent fights?

I'm so glad you and Bruno have a strong bond! I don't think it's a definite that he and another dog will fight when the puppy grows up. However, I would recommend that you introduce them carefully and slowly, and always monitor their interactions until you are certain that Bruno isn't going to play too rough with the puppy. In addition, if you get a female, this can lead to unwanted puppies when she goes into heat. GSDs are a very active breed, and if you have the time and energy to give both dogs all the exercise, attention, and training they need, there is no reason why you can't get another GSD.

Most dogs do well with a companion in the home. It will take some initial training on your part to get Bruno and a new puppy used to each other. I would recommend not leaving the new pup alone with the older dog until they are used to each other. That's a hard question to answer. I guess my first thought is, are you sure it's fighting vs playing? I would recommend taking a video and showing it to your veterinarian (or an animal behaviorist). If they are fighting, it can be due to anxiety, aggression issues, pain, or even just one of them being a bit of a bully. I always think it is better to two dogs than one. I believe they tend to adjust better and do better with training and socializing. As far as whether or not you can keep two unaltered male dogs, absolutely. However, there will definitely be an increased chance for fighting than if they were both neutered. Training and socialization will be of utmost importance at an early age if this is your plan. Hope this helps.
