Hello. From your description of what's going it sounds like Fennick is in his crate with the cone. If that's the case, this is likely why he's acting fearful all of a sudden. The cone alters their vision and can make them feel vulnerable, especially once inside the crate. I would start with leaving him out of his crate until he can have the cone come off. Then start reintroducing him to his crate by putting treats and toys in there, helping him see that it's safe a fun.

Your boyfriend will need to regain Diesel's trust again. He should be the one to feed and water Diesel, take him outside for walks and provide treats/rewards. It may take some time but it can be done. he should talk softly and move slowly when he is around Diesel. You should also praise Diesel when he interacts with your boyfriend. Why he reacted in this manner will likely never be known but scratching/rubbing Diesel's belly shouldn't be done until trust is regained and Diesel offers his abdomen up for rubs.

If you have tried everything and nothing is working than your vet could prescribe medications to see if they help. If she seems very anxious than an anti-anxiety medication, like Prozac or Trazodone, may help. You could also try an Adaptil collar and see if that helps. It sounds like he has become quite a dangerous animal, especially to your mother. Please take his aggression seriously and do not allow small children or animals to be around him, as he has a history of severely hurting people. He also needs to maintain his rabies vaccinations to ensure he is not able to spread a fatal disease with his bites. I would recommend seeing a veterinary behaviorist, a good dog trainer, as well as pursuing neutering him. This will be the best way to try to make him a safe animal to live with. Hi there. Actually, yes! To reasons not always know to us-changes in the hormonal makeup of our animals (i.e. a recent neuter) can make them smell different. Many theories have been postulated as to why previously accepting partners will turn away the new "smell" and show aggression. Many think it is frustration in the change. Some think it is because they now want to show dominance. Often, we do not ever really know for sure. Normally with time the pair will acclimate again, but I usually recommend supervised playtime until then. I hope this helps!

There is a reason German Shepherds have been chosen as guard and military dogs for ages. They do tend to be protective of their owners and some do not do as well near other dogs. Serious training (and occasionally behavior modification medication) is needed to overcome this in some animals. Neutering also helps reduce protective or aggressive urges in male dogs.
