That is unusual. It's possible he is experiencing some changes in his hormones. Environmental allergies and melatonin responsive dermatosis are also possible. Lou is adorable! Unfortunately Frenchies are notorious for developing both environmental allergies (atopy) and food allergies. These signs can be especially apparent during seasonal weather changes. Other issues, like secondary bacterial or mite infections could be causing hair loss. It would be best to have Lou examined by a veterinarian to evaluate for infection and to prescribe medications to help relieve the itch. There are newer, safer medications available for allergies like Cytopoint that have been proven very successful. Lou may need a medicated shampoo or even oral anti- fungal or antibiotics is infection is present. Until you can get to your veterinarian you can try bathing with a soothing shampoo like Douxo Calm to provide some relief for Lou. The signs you are describing are compatible with a fungal or parasitical infection of the skin. I do not think it is related to the new, and probably the link is just incidental. Usually food allergies manifest with intense itch as well. A check up and some skin tests (hair plug and skin scrapes) are essential to determine precisely the underlying cause and treat appropriately.

It really comes down to figuring out what is causing her allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

Poor Lebron! It's true that skin problems like this can be caused by a number of different things. Usually, some diagnostic testing (such as a skin scrape, cytology, possible bacterial or fungal culture, etc.) is needed to determine what the problem is - so I'm wondering if any tests were done at your vet visit, or if any medications were prescribed to try and treat the problem. If not, I would recommend taking Lebron back for a recheck visit, or seeking a second opinion from another vet. It's likely that he will need prescription medication such as a steroid and/or antibiotic in order to treat the problem, depending on what the testing shows.

Skin can be very frustrating. The most common cause of skin irritation is allergies (food, flea or environmental). However skin mites, endocrine and auto immune disease can also cause skin issues. I would recommend applying flea prevention every 30 days year round to make sure the fleas are not an issue. Also if the skin is not resolving Kim might need medications for longer, stronger medications or more testing like a skin scrape for mites or biopsy for auto immune disease.
