Why is my French Bulldog shaking in pain, not constipation?

I don't think it should be related to the surgery this many days out but, of course, it could be. I suggest you take him back to the vet for an exam. I do not know what could be going on without examining him myself.

Poor Bruce. Ok so first off shaking while sleeping is completely normal in puppies and typically is their body reacting to a dream they are having. If this ONLY happens during sleep then I would not worry about this at all. Constipation is pretty uncommon in puppies, however if you notice hard feces or straining to defecate and nothing coming out, then it is possible this is present. Just make sure you puppy isn't straining (tenesmus) due to colitis (inflamed colon), which will cause scant loose stools and frequent trips outside, as opposed to constipation where there is nothing that comes out or only hardened stools. If constipation is confirmed then an enema is the best way to treat this. Increase his water intake by offering him wet canned food or adding water to his dry kibble. Also laxatone (from your local pet store) can help soften his stools and provide a lot of relief for Bruce.

This sounds like he’s in pain. He could have back pain from a bulging intervertebral disc, or be constipated, or have hip pain. This sounds serious so I recommend a veterinary exam soon. With bloat they look bloated and they go from fine to very distressed in a few hours and then it’s life threatening. If this has been going on longer without a swollen abdomen then bloat is less likely. Regardless, he’s in pain and needs veterinary care. Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If the blood results and x-rays were normal, it could be a problem with a nerve or with the spinal cord. It may be worth to rest Nacho for a few days (only short walks on a leash) and use painkillers. If after 3-4 days this treatment does not help, you should consider more advanced imaging of the spine, for example contrast x-ray, CT or MRI scan. French Bulldogs do suffer from spinal problems, like slipped disc, vertebral instability, vertebral body maldevelopment and more. Plane x-ray is not useful in diagnosis most of these problems, therefore the only sensible way to go is advance imaging.

The hips look ok (hip dysplasia is possible on the right hip joint, but the positioning isn't perfect, which is required for that diagnosis). She does have significant issues with the vertebrae in her thoracic spine. I cannot tell exactly what is going on from these x-rays (it is much easier to evaluate them in-person), but they are likely causing significant discomfort. Lulu may need pain medications for life. A second opinion from a veterinary orthopedic surgeon would be a good idea to see if there is a surgical option to provide pain relief.

This sounds very concerning , could be from the chili, but could also have other causes such as a severe abdominal problem. There is also a possibility that Lyyli may have a problem with her spinal cord, such as intervertebral disc disease. You need to take her to your veterinarian for an exam, preferably today as this does sound like a serious condition. She is obviously in pain.

Swelling around the anal region could be an indication of an impacted or infected anal gland. The constipation you describe could be due to lack of fiber in the diet, eating something out of the ordinary, or perhaps an infectious cause such as an intestinal worm infection. If Mila has not seen her veterinarian for this yet, I would recommend this happen soon. Her veterinarian may recommend an exam, anal gland expression, and fecal test to help determine a cause so she can be treated appropriately. I hope this helps!
