Why is my French Bulldog panting so much after her C-section?

My dog is a 2 year old French bulldog that just had a c-section yesterday around 4 no fast forward today she won’t stop panting she eats and drinks water and uses the restroom but she won’t stop panting

Your dog likely is in pain. Pain causes panting. A c-section is a bog operation and the vet cuts through a lot of tissue and there is also blood loss. If your vet gave you some pain medicine, you should give it as prescribed. If not, you should get some from your vet tomorrow morning. If she has lost a lot of blood then she would also pant to get sufficient oxygen to her body and brains. Make sure she keeps drinking, eating, pooping and feeding her puppies.

She is likely panting from pain. Panting is one of the main indicators of pain. I suggest you call your vet and ask about pain medication. If she is already on some, they may need to adjust the dose. They may not have given any due to the puppies nursing (some pain medications are passed in the milk) but some are pain medications that are safe to use. Please call them and ask about this. I don't think the bologna plastic has anything to do with it if I am understanding you correctly (the red peel on the outside of the meat). That should not be harmful. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

I'm glad you took Pixie into the vet! French Bulldogs often need c sections to give birth. The panting can be normal. When the puppies nurse, that stimulates the release of oxytocin, which then causes the uterus to contract and leads to the panting. She's likely digging to make a nest for her puppies. My dog is panting hard two days after giving birth. Is she okay?

If the panting is non stop then it is not normal but panting after giving birth is considered normal in the first 24 hours after birth. one of the reasons could be exhaustion but it could also be due to milk fever which is a condition caused by lack of calcium due to milk production. in such a case i would recommend a vet visit to check her calcium level and rectify it accordingly (usually by injection and oral calcium).

The panting should gradually settle after labour has finished . Unless it is just happening on and off which could be normal, if mum Is separated from puppies to go to the toilet for example. If it does persist she could be running a temperature or she could have more puppies in her tummy. This might not be the case, and it might just be normal for her but just to give you different scenarios so that if she continues to be unsettled you take her to see a vet. With regards to her water intake, always leave plenty of fresh water available and if you are worried about not drinking as she normally does add some water in her food. It sounds like Pixie could be in the first stage of labor, which can last up to 18 hours. Now if 18 hours have passed since you first starting seeing these signs, she needs to see a vet now. French bulldogs frequently need help giving birth in the form of a c-section, with over 80% of their litter being delivered this way. It's very important to take her into a vet if 18 hours have passed, as leaving her without veterinary treatment can and has lead to the death of the puppies and potentially the dog. Yes, this normal. Nursing causes the release of oxytocin, which in turn causes uterine contractions. Lyla is panting due to the uterine contractions. This can occur for up to two weeks. Keep in mind as well that this can be a sign of a post-partum problem, so make sure her temperature is normal (101-102.5F). If she has a fever, then she will need to see a vet immediately. My dog just had puppies, why is she panting and acting strange?

Please have Storm seen by a vet right away. She may be dealing with an infection or an electrolyte imbalance that can occur in dogs who have recently given birth that could be causing her pain or leading to a feeling of weakness (hence the panting).
