My pregnant dog is panting, leaking, not eating. Is she in labor?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Female | unspayed

My girl is due to have pups tomorrow, yesterday morning she started panting for about 40 mins, ate some chicken and returned to normal. She was leaking fluid sometimes enough gushing to look like she had wet herself. This was happening for about 2 hours then stopped. Then last night she has been irritable and heavy panting all night, Today she will not eat, very heavy panting. Does she sound close or will I be up all night watching like a mad woman for them to come tomorrow

It sounds like Pixie could be in the first stage of labor, which can last up to 18 hours. Now if 18 hours have passed since you first starting seeing these signs, she needs to see a vet now. French bulldogs frequently need help giving birth in the form of a c-section, with over 80% of their litter being delivered this way. It's very important to take her into a vet if 18 hours have passed, as leaving her without veterinary treatment can and has lead to the death of the puppies and potentially the dog. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
