French bulldog fluid pocket after back surgery. Is it serious?

This is most likely a seroma which is just a fluid pocket. But a seroma can inhibit healing if it is too big. I would have your vet look at it so they can drain it. Your vet will be able to confirm that it is a seroma and that there isn’t any pus or infection involved. After it is drained you can put a warm compress on it for 10 minutes twice a day to help prevent the fluid from coming back. Sometimes it will return and need to be drained again. Also make sure you are keeping her confined as too much activity can also cause these to form post-op. I hope this helps!

Hello, I am sorry to hear about Sunny. The fluid filled pocket you describe sounds very similar to an abscess. Dogs can have abscesses in this location secondary to dental disease, stick chewing, or other problems. If severe enough the abscess can cause a fever as you describe. If Sunny is not doing better with the medications provided I would have her rechecked by your veterinarian. They may have to drain the abscess to help get rid of the infection. It is possible that Sunny feels uncomfortable due to the abscess which is why her limb is stiff. However, it is possible that this is unrelated and could be caused by a muscle strain or infection. If this does not improve or gets worse in spite of the medications I would have her rechecked by your veterinarian so that the can examine the area and her affected limb. Hope this helps, good luck!

I would highly recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. It is difficult to see in the photo the exact location of this swelling, but I would be concerned about things like a cyst filling quickly, an abscess (pocket of infection), an infected tooth root, a hematoma (blood filled swelling), and a sialocele which is a ruptured salivary duct causing saliva to pool beneath the skin. I would recommend making an appointment for your vet to examine Fudge. If at any point she develops difficulty breathing or swallowing then a trip to the emergency vet would be recommended.

It could be that Dana has a seroma, which is a pocket of fluid that forms in empty space. This can be caused by too much activity after surgery. I would have her seen by a vet first thing in the morning. If it is a seroma, it may need to be sterilely drained.

I'm sorry to hear Bertie is having issues. It sounds like Bertie may be having an issue with his anal glands, which can become enlarged and infected if they are filling too quickly or not emptying properly. I would recommend Bertie be seen by his regular veterinarian to determine the underlying cause for his swelling, especially as infected anal glands can abscess and rupture.
