My spayed dog has fleas. Can I use flea spray near her incision?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Female | spayed | 2 years and 2 months old | 21 lbs

Hi! My dog got spayed yesterday and they told me she has fleas. I already washed everything with hot water and sprayed some indoor flea killer. They also told me they gave her some meds to kill fleas but today I found one on her still. What should I do? I looked in the internet this spray but i don’t know if it affect the incision she has on her belly.

You should check with your vets office first what has been used as some products take up to 48hours to kill fleas (these are normally slower moving than healthy fleas!) You may also see freshly hatched fleas jump on your dog before they are killed by the medication until the household spray has a chance to work also. I would not use any spray within two inches of the surgical wound and would be cautious that it may interact with what has already been given by your vet also
