Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is a display of dominant behavior. This is generally not a big concern but I would try to avoid as much as possible as she could hurt the kitty by mistake. Have a great day!

Good question. My dogs do that too and the cat lets them. It’s a sign of dominance rather than sexual. I think they want to make sure the cat knows they are the boss of the house. My cat tolerates it and just goes about his business. Unless the dog is hurting the cat it’s nothing to be overly concerned about. My kitten nurses on my dog & my dog humps my cat. Is this normal?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is in fact most likely normal. Nursing from a young kitten is expected to some extent and that will likely go away on its own. Rosie humping Callie is likely a display of dominant behavior which is somewhat typical when having two animals in the same place. This will all most likely get better with time. If you are not planning on breeding her then it is best to get her spayed. Dominance behavior and sexual behavior can both be decreased by spaying (removing the source of the hormones). Why is my older neutered cat humping and meowing at my kitten?

Hello. This is just a way for your older cat to demonstrate dominance over the younger one. It is not sexual. As the kitten matures, this will put everyone on more equal ground & the behavior will stop. Just shoo the cats apart ( don't get loud or angry because you do not want to make either cat fearful of the other ), or distract them with a toy or treat, & eventually they will learn to live peacefully with one another. Why does my female dog mount others and get mad at male dogs mounting?

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Pet Coach. This behavior Hana is doing is to establish dominance over other dogs that she comes into contact with. It is purely for dominance in the encounter or relationship. I would recommend to get her spayed as soon as you are able to so you can avoid accidental breeding for her.
