My 11-week puppy has a 6-hour trip. Should I feed her beforehand?

Don't feed her after midnight the night before you travel. Take up the water that morning and walk her just before you go to the airport and before you board or load her (if possible). When you get to your destination, wait an hour or two then feed and water half what you normally offer. Feed the remainder after an hour if there is no vomiting. This can happen with travel.

It would probably be easiest to feed before and after, although if the dogs are used to a strict schedule it might be better to try to feed at the normal time. I think either choice is fine! I would probably offer water and a potty break every 4-6 hours.

I would start by checking with the airline to see what their rules are. I'm not sure food is allowed in cargo. If he'll be in the cabin, stick with his regular food and schedule. I would be reluctant to fly a 4 month old more than 5-6 hours without food/water, and even that is pushing it.

Travelling is always a stress on the system. Try to increase fluid intake & make sure she gets plenty of exercise while you are travelling. We often advise feeding canned pumpkin , 1- 2 tablespoons twice a day to help move the bowels. As long as she is not vomiting, try feeding her some special treats like some chicken or cooked hamburger. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Orcan. It would be fine to give him a small meal about an hour before his flight. Then be sure to walk him so he has an opportunity to defecate if necessary. Then you can feed him the remainder of his dinner after the flight. A dog his size can easily be fasted 12-24 hours. So you flight time will be fine for him. Be sure to provide him with water. I hope this information helps!

Hello. A puppy should be vaccinated once a month until 16 weeks of age. Until then, disease susceptibility is possible. For the most part, she should be OK to travel, but if you do stop for potty breaks, make sure Luna does not pick up anything on the ground & wipe down her feet with a damp paper towel before getting back in the car. Try to continue her routine at your destination as best as possible, but a relatively short trip like this should not ruin any house training lessons Luna has learned so far.
