When can my epileptic dog get vaccinated after kennel cough treatment?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | 8 years and 7 months old | 50 lbs

Namaste, am from India. Thank you for answering my first query. Already my doggy has been given prescribed medicines for kennel cough- deriphillyn, dexona 0.5mg and Toxo mox 500mg. The course has been completed. We have poor facilities in veterinary hospitals in India. All pets are treated like as if they're not living creatures. Is there any medication to be continued further? Can I vaccinate him now with vanguard 7 as he is on due annual date. As he's epileptic am afraid to take any decision.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! After the treatment for kennel cough if the dog is doing well there is no further treatment. He may have a lingering cough when excited but that is normal. He can have his regular vaccines 2 weeks after the treatment was started. The Vanguard 7 is not a vaccine for kennel cough however. That is a distemper/parvo/hepatitis combination. I would recommend getting a kennel cough vaccine to lessen the severity if kennel cough should he come into contact with it again. Having seizures will not affect the recommenced vaccines. Good luck and kisses to Rambo!
