Is 40-60 minutes of daily exercise enough for an English Springer?

Walking is good for dogs because it keeps their weight down, and their body strong. Because Bruno is a German Shepherd, their exercise requirements are higher because they are active dogs. He should be getting at least 30 minutes twice a day of exercise, but it's fine to keep it shorter when it is hot outside. You can't exercise him too much in the heat because it will lead to heat stroke, which is deadly. There are dogs who don't get much exercise and still lead full lives, so I wouldn't listen to your friend. But that doesn't mean Bruno wouldn't benefit from more exercise when it's cooler outside. Lucy is a cutie. You can certainly start taking her on walks and even short runs if you’d like daily. Over time you can increase the length of the walks and eventually even longer runs. They do have to condition just like us to running longer distances. If she likes to swim, swimming is an excellent exercise especially as they get older. After she finishes swimming be sure to clean out her ears with an dog ear cleaner to prevent an ear infection from water getting down in the ear canal. I hope this helps!

Some dogs may need more exercise than that. A good gauge is how much extra energy she has at home.
