It is used in products marketed as supplements for dogs. The plant itself produces alkaloids that have been toxic in several species of grazing animals, but these compounds are removed during processing, so the oil itself does not contain them. I have found nothing that would indicate that it would harm a dog. However, if your dog is not allergic, fish oil supplements for pets or fish-based foods (Hills Prescription Diet z/d) are a proven method of providing more Omega-3 supplementation.
