Dry food brands for 9-year-old Australian Terrier who loves liver?

Royal Canin makes a prescription diet called Hepatic and Hill's Science Diet makes l/d for Liver care. Both these diets would probably be good options for Lucky but it's important to double check with your veterinarian first. You have a lot of flexibility since she's a young/middle age adult, and I'm assuming she's healthy. Basically any food made by a reputable company is going to be fine for her. There has been more and more evidence coming out recently that grain-free diets aren't healthy for dogs (linked to a particular type of heart failure called Dilated Cardiomyopathy) and raw food also presents risk of salmonella and e.coli to both the dog and family around the dog, so I'd generally recommend staying away from both of those options. The brands I like are Hills, Purina, and Royal Canin because they have veterinary nutritionists on staff, have good quality control, and generally make solid products. I hope that helps a bit!

There are several excellent diets for liver disease in the market from Hills, Purina and Royal canin, among others. It should not matter if canned or dry. I would just choose whatever Tanner prefers. Dogs with food allergies are difficult because of the balance between the best nutrition and the type of protein used in these food. The most ideal food would be a prescription kidney diet (i.e. science diet k/d) but most of these have chicken in them you could look at Purina NF the dry kibble as there isn't any chicken listed on the ingredients. I would call Purina or have your vet call and confirm that they don't have any chicken in the dry kibble. If you choose this food, your vet will likely have to order it for you and give you a written prescription for you to buy it. I would not put him on high protein diets like blue buffalo or wilderness. These diets put a lot of strain on the kidneys. I would look into Natural Balance venice and sweet potato. If he is really allergic then I would talk to your vet about whether he should be on a prescription hypoallergenic diet. I hope this helps!

I would remove all treats and only use her food as a treat instead. If she is not losing weight on either of these foods within 2-3 months, I would talk to your veterinarian to discuss other options such as thyroid testing and prescription weight loss food. Great question! I personally recommend a high quality dog food, such as Royal Canin or Hills Science diet. Feed TJ according to the package instructions on the bag. As long as you don't give him excess treats or human food, it's fine to feed him a regular dog food instead of having to worry about giving him a specialized diet. I hope this helps!

I recommend the brand Royal Canin. It is highly digestible without fillers so pets generally have only a small amount of stool production. It is also a great brand for healthy coat and skin. I also like the brand Purina Proplan. I hope this helps.
