What's the best dog food for my Cairn Terrier who isn't very active?

The amount to feed a pet is dependent upon the' pet's activity level, metabolism and the calories found in the diet. The back of the dog food package will list how much to feed the 'average' dog. Since Amber is only 10 month's old, she should still be eating a puppy formula until she is one year old and then she can transition to an adult formula. The brand Royal Canin is an excellent food and it's puppy formulas will recommend to amount to feed based upon size and age (so it's a little more exact). Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If Teddy is healthy and doing well, I would not jump to switching his food. Royal Canin is one of the best pet foods out there. First, be sure that he is not having any other problems causing him not to eat well. Be sure he does not have any mouth pain or GI problems. This may require a vet visit if you're unsure. If Teddy is 6 lbs, his daily amount of food should be around 1/2 of a measuring cup or slightly less, so it is not a large amount of food. Be sure you are using a measuring cup to accurately assess how much he is being fed per day. Be sure that he isn't getting many other treats during the day, as a small dog can fill up quickly with a couple treats. If you truly feel that Royal Canin is not the best of Teddy then Hill's Science diet or Iams Eukanuba are equivalent quality foods. But do not switch his food frequently as you may create a picky eater. Be sure to do any diet changes gradually over the course of a week, mixing the food gradually.

I’m not a fan of a raw diet. It can harbor bacteria that can cause diarrhea in your dog, and you also can get sick from uncooked raw food. Corgis are prone to being overweight so I recommend a good quality diet dry food, with added vegetables. I love Hills metabolic diet. It’s very tasty and will help maintain his optimal weight. Unfortunately, there is no one "best" food or treat for Snickers. There are higher quality diets such as Acana, Royal Canin, Canidae and a few others. The key to choosing a diet for your dog is to find one that he will eat, that doesn't cause any GI upset and is easy for you to buy. Choose a diet with a named protein source over diets with by-products and meat meals. I would recommend feeding a diet from a company with a good reputation, who employs veterinary nutritionists to help formulate their diets and does AAFCO feeding trials to prove that their diets provide complete and balanced nutrition when fed long-term. Companies that meet these criteria include Iams, Purina, and Royal Canin. Purina Dog Chow Complete Adults would be a very reasonable choice.
