My dog has yeast, worms, bleeding, and smells awful. What should I do?

Vito’s ear looks significantly infected and is likely very painful. You are not going to be able to treat this at home. First you need to know what type of infection is present so that appropriate medications can be selected. He also likely needs pain relief, steroids or other anti-inflammatory and a topical cleanser as well. This is all dependent upon the condition of the ear canal, the type of infection present and any pre-existing medical conditions he may have. Pets can have many types of worms and you need to know what type of worm he has in order to select the appropriate medication. If you do not select the appropriate medication, the worms will not be killed. It is also important to remember that some types of worms are transmittable to humans so you want to get this taken care of quickly. I recommend to have Vito examined by his veterinarian today for treatment and so that he starts feeling better faster. I hope this helps and that he feels better quickly.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Bujji! It is very hard to see the wound, but in the last picture it looks more like a mass involving his left foot. He should be using an E-collar to prevent licking and be kept indoors to prevent flies from landing on the wound resulting in maggots. Bujji needs to be seen by a Vet to see if that is a mass on the foot or if the foot is broken. The only thing I can recommend is the above plus cleaning the wound twice daily with water and soap and applying mupirocin ointment after each cleaning. He needs oral antibiotics and pain medications. We can not prescribe medications legally because the law requires a valid Veterinary Client Patient Relationship. In order to have that we need to be able to examine him in person. I wish Bujji the best!

The most likely diseases are as follows: 1. Parvo, a virus that primarily attacks the immune system and intestines of dogs and is very lethal if left without supportive care. 2. Intestinal parasites which can cause intestinal blockage and even anemia (depletion of red blood cells). 3. Other viruses with varying severities. This is not an exhaustive list, just the most common things for a puppy. They will all lead to dehydration and other secondary issues which can all be severe enough to cause death. Whatever the underlying disease, he looks very ill and needs attention from a veterinarian immediately. I would recommend taking him to your nearest emergency veterinary hospital as soon as possible. Anal glands may need to be emptied and it would be good to ensure that there is no abscess formation that may be making them smell more than usual. Also, they can look into what is causing his vomiting. Possible reasons for vomiting include foreign body ingestion and obstruction, dietary indiscretion and pancreatitis, among others. At the very least, they can prescribe medications to make him feel better. Good luck!

If you are observing skin lesions and an odor he may have both a bacterial and yeast infection. While some cases can be treated topically and with medicated shampoos, more severe cases often requires oral antibiotic and antifungal therapy. As a first line therapy, start with a medicated shampoo that can be used for both yeast and bacterial infections such as Malaseb or Virbac or products recommended by your veterinarian. Additionally, it is important to make sure he is on a monthly flea prevention as many pets are sensitive to fleas. If this is secondary to allergies or what we refer to as atopy, he may require additional therapy including an allergy vaccine.

You must take him to the vet urgently, he is suffering from maggot infestation and this needs to be treated as soon as possible with antibiotics and anti maggot medications. the maggots will also need to be removed manually from the wound.

Many yeast and or fungal infections can take a while to improve. Veterinarians often start with topical therapy and often that is all that is needed. However, if the area is larger, not improving, bleeding, or otherwise seems worse than sometimes oral anti fungal medications and sometimes a cone to keep them from licking are important nest steps.
