My dog has a wound after park. Should I treat it or see a vet?

Yes, it looks just like some sort of wound from an injury. I would not be overly worried about it at this stage. HI there! I'm sorry to hear about Marley's troubles. Of course the best thing to do would be to take Marley to his veterinarian to have the wound examined, to make sure it isn't too deep, and doesn't require sutures or anything else, like antibiotics. However, I understand that isn't an option at the moment A great product to use that's over the counter is Veterycin Plus wound spray or gel. Apply this twice per day, and make sure the wound stays covered where Marley cannot lick at it. If he can reach the wound, place a sock or a t shirt on him so that he can't lick all of the wound medication off once it's applied. If you notice a lot of redness, any swelling, discharge of any kind, a foul odor, or the wound is not starting to heal in 3-5 days, then Marley will need to see a veterinarian. However, it would still be a good idea to have him evaluated by a veterinarian to look at it more closely in case it is deeper than what it looks like. Also, these can be painful and can get infected so your veterinarian could potentially start antibiotics and pain control medications. If superficial, these wounds tend to respond well to therapy and heal relatively quickly. Good luck and have a good night!

I am sorry to hear about your dog! I would recommend bringing him in to his vet to examine the wound if it is not improving. It probably needs to be shaved and cleaned (I cannot see the actual wound in the photo so assume it is covered in fur and the wet area on the cheek). Often bites are puncture wounds and are deep and sometimes do require antibiotics to treat infection.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sometimes, rest and some topical antiseptic such as Vetericyn wound spray are enough for minor wounds on the paw pads to heal. Vetericyn is available at most Petco locations and on Petco.com, so just apply as labeled topically; it is not harmful if small amounts are swallowed were she to lick it off of the area, though Alivas may need an Elizabethan collar to prevent her from licking the wound to allow it to heal. If the pain persists or the wound continues draining for longer than 1-2 more days, I would recommend having her seen by your Veterinarian, sooner if either her pain or the drainage worsen. Keep her activity level down until healed, especially off of rocks and other rough/sharp surfaces. I hope this helps!

Hi there. Not sure how the wound occurred but it is definitely a wound! I would not be too worried just yet. It does not look infected.
