My dog has a wound near his butt. What should I do to help him heal?

Hi there, It sounds like Chico may have a ruptured anal gland, the anal glands on each side of the anus, but when they become too full they can burst and cause what appears to be a wound on the side of the anus. I cannot really see the injury well on this picture. This could be an infected anal gland which would have to be treated by a veterinarian. If it is just a scrape or a crack in the skin, you should shave the hair around it, flush it with a mild wound disinfectant and then apply some antibiotic ointment. If it does not heal in a week after doing this, your dog needs to be seen by your veterinarian for wound treatment.
