My dog won't poop in a new environment. What can I give him?

I would definitely not add salt as this can cause him to have salt poisoning and subsequent neurological problems. I would suggest adding 1-2 tsp of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) to his food daily which will add fiber and hopefully allow him to go #2 a bit easier. If he is still having issues then I would have his prostate examined to check if it is enlarged and possible the underlying problem as to why he can't go easily. An enlarged prostate will push up on the colon, making the hole narrower so that poop can't easily pass through. The cure for this is to have him on a laxative through your vet and ultimately getting him neutered can resolve this issue for good. I hope everything works out for your pet Kitty. Take care.

Poor guy. He may be a bit constipated. If he is squatting but no feces are coming out, then its best to take him to your vet to have him checked. He may need an enema to remove dried stuck feces in his colon so that he can freely go. You can also give an over the counter enema (from your local pharmacy) if you are up for it. Make sure he has free access to water and give him some canned food as well to increase his water intake. Constipation in young dogs is also often caused by intestinal parasites, so its good to have his stool checked by the vet as well. I hope that your fur baby feels better and is able to go potty soon! It sounds like Gizmo is being stubborn and doesn't want to poop in the snow! I would try clearing off a patch of your yard so that he has a clean space to go poop. You can also give him a tablespoon of canned pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling) with his food to try to get him to poop. If he still isn't pooping in another 24 hours, then you need to take him into the vet.

Congratulations on bringing Charlie into your family! Certainly the new environment could be causing the condition. Take Charlie for a long walk twice a day. Walking can help to regulate the bowel movement. If he still does not have a bowel movement after three days he should see the veterinarian to check for constipation. Why don't you just try giving him some canned pumpkin for a few days. Dogs usually eat it readily. I suggest 1/4 cup twice a day. Used only pure pumpkin puree - not the pie filling. If he won't eat that the you can use canned dog food. I wouldn't change the diet unless this becomes an ongoing problem.
