My dog won't eat dry food after raw or wet. How can I transition?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 30 lbs

My dog is rejecting dry food. I feed her raw food and raw food or wet food. But she suddenly stops eating dry food most of the times. I removed the other foods to reinforce her eating dry food from different brand like purina(friskies), miglior cane and she dont eat them for many days as i dont feed her other foods. Before 2 years, she eats dry food for a period of time then she stops then she eats again. But now she is rejecting it completely

Hello, and thank you for your question. Stela is a beautiful dog. It is possible that she is just being picky. I would try to very gradually mix in the dry food into her wet diet, for example each day feed a bit more kibble and less wet food.

I generally advise against raw diets, as they can harbour bacteria and cause serious illness in both dogs and the people who handle the food. Try sticking to commercial kibble and wet food, with the goal of transitioning onto kibble over time. Experiment with different brands, and hopefully you will find something that she likes!

If she seems at all unwell (low energy, vomiting, diarrhea), then I would worry about a medical cause for the low appetite, and recommend taking her to the vet. They can check for things like a gut infection, parasites, food allergies, etc.

    I would monitor her weight, fecal production and her general clinical condition. If she is playful, happy in herself, full of energy with normal faces production and good body weight, the daily food intake and the treatment you are providing are enough to keep her healthy. If she has diarrhea or she is underweight (probably Zula's case) her diet/treatment might need an adjustment. It might be necessary to increase her daily ratio or change the ingredient balance. If there isn't any specific reason to provide raw food, you could gradually switch to a highly digestible commercial diet (i.e. Hill's gastrointestinal diet), continue the treatment prescribed by your vet. Treats might be detrimental in dogs with this condition Please post again on the forum if you would like to discuss it further. I hope my answer was helpful.

It would be a good idea to have her checked by the vet, just in case. Most likely, though, she is being stubborn. Your dog has decided what her diet will be, but that's not her job . . . it's yours. Stop feeding her the wet food Put her dry food in a bowl on the floor without fuss and leave it for 15 minutes. After that time, pick it up whether she has eaten or not. Do not give her anything--no treats, snacks or human food--until her next scheduled mealtime. Then repeat the process. My dog stopped eating kibble after moving. Is wet food a good option?
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Fifi. Her appetite may be decreased due to all of the life changes she has experienced recently. Everything you described can be stressful for a dog. I would continue to offer the canned dog food if that is what she currently prefers. It will be nutritionally balanced for her. Once she is eating normally again, you can begin to offer kibble and she should eat it. If she is vomiting, has diarrhea or other signs of illness, then she will need to see her veterinarian. In this case, her lack of appetite is likely related to an underlying disease. I hope this information helps!

My dog won't eat dry kibble. What can I mix with it or train her?
I would try mixing the dry and wet food together to see if Aira will eat that, and if she does, gradually decrease the amount of wet food you give her until she eats the dry food only. You can also try that with boiled white meat chicken (no bones). Mix it with the dry kibble, and over time gradually decrease the amount of chicken until she is eating the kibble only. My dog is a picky eater. How to transition from soft to dry food?
You can mix the 2 together and slowly decrease the amount of soft food he gets to get him used to dry food again. You can add a small amount of chicken or beef broth to the food to give it a little more flavor an entice him back to dry food that way

My dog won't eat his new kibble after switching from Raw Boost.
I would recommend doing a gradual transition to the new food. Slowly every day remove some of the old food and add more of the new food. If he is still not eating when you try the gradual transition then I would recommend having him evaluated to make sure there is nothing medical going on. My picky dog won't eat dry kibble without wet. Should I change brands?
I am happy Luna is feeling better but a picky eater can be very frustrating. In my experience most dogs will not starve themselves. Changing foods often or back and forth Luna is learning if she does not eat she will get a better or different food. If the vet told you she is healthy I would start some touch love on her. I would get a food you want to feed and put it out for her. If she does not eat for 1-2 days than I would not be concerned. Typically once Luna realizes she is not getting anything else she will eat. Also if LUna is holding her body weight I do not get overly concerned. My own dogs will eat fast one day and slow or not at all the next. I think dogs will sometimes change there eating habits and this is okay as long as they are maintain weight and are still happy and healthy. I hope that helps

For example, you may add low sodium chicken broth, veterinary approved gravy which you can get at your pet store or pieces of boiled chicken to it. Good luck!
