My dog won't eat his adult food. Should I change his protein?

For example, you may add low sodium chicken broth, veterinary approved gravy which you can get at your pet store or pieces of boiled chicken to it. Good luck!

No, dogs typically do not get tired of the same food; in fact, they can eat the same food for their entire lives, moving to a senior version of the food when they are older. I never change my dogs' food, and they are happy to eat it every day. You can try a different brand if you'd like however, but make sure to make the switch slowly to avoid GI upset. Start by mixing together the old food and the new food, and over the course to two weeks, increase the amount of new food and decrease the amount of old food until they are eating the new food only. If Teddy is still acting completely normal, eating his regular amount and maintaining his weight, I wouldn't worry too much. Some dogs will prefer to only eat once a day and do just fine. The 9 to 12 month range is when I normally recommend transitioning to an adult food, so you could start doing that and see if he wants to eat once or twice a day. If he starts losing weight, doesn't have the energy he used to have, or develops vomiting or diarrhea, I would be concerned there is something more serious going on and would have him examined by your veterinarian.

Causes of a decrease in appetite are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infection, he ate something gross that is upsetting his stomach, he ate something that is stuck, food allergy/intolerance, Inflammatory Bowel disease, Addison's disease, new treat/food/table food. Sometimes this can be behavioral as well, he is waiting for something better like the Pedigree. If there is not other symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, or lethargy then that is likely the problem. If you recently got a new bag of his food the company may have changed the formula or there is a issue with that bag of food. If you really don't want to feed him Pedigree then hold your ground. Offer his normal food, you can add water to it to make it more tempting, and if he doesn't eat it then pick it up. Do not offer treats or any other food and then he is not fed again until his next meal time. You can also consider feeding him once daily. I think it is worth a try, yes. If he still doesn't like it, then perhaps a slow transition to another high quality puppy food can be tried. I really like Royal Canin, Hills Science diet, Evo, Merrick And Eukanuba brands if you interested in other brand options. Best of luck with Boovs and getting him interested in his food again.

Do not feed him adult food, it will not provide the nutrition Prince needs as a growing puppy. Try warming his puppy food slightly before feeding. You can also mix in an appropriate puppy milk replacer or a teaspoon of baby food to stimulate his appetite. If he still won't eat, have Prince examined by your veterinarian to diagnose illness or injury.

It is not normal for a two month old puppy to not want to eat. I suggest you take him to the vet for an exam. I am glad he is acting normally and playing but he needs to eat. I don't know what foods you have tried but I suggest Purina Pro Plan Savor - it is made for picky eaters. Use the puppy formula and you may want to mix in some canned food with the dry in the beginning. The canned food only comes as adult and it is OK to mix a bit with the dry if needed. DO NOT feed him any human foods - you will get him in a habit you cannot break.
