Why is my dog's white fur on paws and legs turning yellow?

Hyperkeratosis only effects the pads of the paws, not the fur. Yellow fur can occur due to contact with dark coloring staining substances like berries, mud...etc. Yellow fur can also be a sign of skin disease. Look closely at Storm's skin. It should be pale white and smooth. If the skin is flakey, red or has scabs, there is likely an infection and he should be examined by the veterinarian. That discoloration is a porphyrin staining. Dogs have this stain in their saliva normally. Curly is obviously licking his paws most likely due to an underlying allergy. Seasonal and non-seasonal environmental and food allergies can cause a pet to lick or chew on the feet, knees, or other body parts. Most of the time, when a dog's paws look like this, it's a sign that they have been licking or chewing their paws excessively. It's likely that Rocky has allergies causing this problem - either food allergies, or an allergy to something in the environment. I would recommend taking him to the vet to have this checked when you're able to, so that he can get started on appropriate treatment to keep him from continuing to chew at his paws. Once he stops licking and chewing, the brown staining will gradually resolve on its own. In the meantime, you can also try a whitening dog shampoo to see if this helps - this probably won't completely get rid of the stains, but may help to make them less noticeable.

First of all, you will need to ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). The dog then licks and chews the area which will also cause saliva staining, which turns the hair a reddish-brown color. The most common cause of a yeast infection on the feet of dogs is allergies. Allergies could be to a food protein, the environment, or fleas. Other less common causes of the issues you have described would be bacterial infection or immune-mediated disease. However, if you are seeing any brown stained areas, then this is due to excessive licking, which usually indicates an allergy or OCD licking behavior.
