My dog whimpers when getting up and favors a leg. Is it arthritis?

So your dog has arthritis in the right hip and a subluxation in the left hip. He may be shaking due to pain from these problems, and he may need pain medications. Do NOT give him any human pain medications. Many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Take him into the vet to get pain medications. Best of luck.

Poor Dallas! If he is in that much pain from arthritis then he should be examined by a vet for treatment. Your vet can prescribe an anti-inflammatory and pain medications to help treat the problem. It could be that Buddy is suffering from arthritis, and that's causing him to limp in pain. Arthritis is common in older dogs. I would take Buddy into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose if he is suffering from arthritis, and can give him some pain meds for it. Rimadyl (an NSAID) is a good drug to give to help with the symptoms of arthritis. I also recommend giving him glucosamine or chondroitin sulfate supplements. They provide the necessary nutrients for cartilage repair and function. Use of them helps relieve some of the symptoms of arthritis, and you can use it in conjuction with Rimadyl to help maximize relief from his symptoms.

Hello, sorry to hear about Baloo. His elbows definitely show signs of arthritis. Elbow arthritis is common in Rottweilers has 3 components to it. 2 of these components, a fragments coranoid process and an ununited anconeal process can cause moderate to severe pain. The therapy for this disease includes surgery to remove the chipped bone fragments in the joint. You should consult with an orthopedic surgeon regarding Baloos elbow disease so that his problem can be addressed. Arthritis is definitely a possibility. You could start him on a joint supplement, like Dasuquin and see if that helps. Your vet could also take an x-ray to evaluate for arthritis and then start him on a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, like Deramaxx, Previcox, Rimadyl, etc. NSAIDs help relieve the discomfort associated with arthritis.
