My dog is whimpering, restless, salivating, and has diarrhea. Help!

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 5 months old | 22 lbs

My dog eats at night, he pooped once a solid stool, then woke up crying a few hours later at 3am with a loose stool & now he's very restless & whimpering while he's laying down. He wants to go outside but it's raining so I put pads down for him. He is salvitating at the mouth & very restless walking around with his tail between his legs. This has happened a few times this month but the whining wasn't as much as it is tonight. What is going on! 2 yr old jack poodle mix!

It sounds like Jagger could have an upset stomach. The salivating could be related to anxiety, pain or nausea, and diarrhea could be related. If the diarrhea continues, if he vomits, or if he will not eat I would recommend seeing your veterinarian. If he doesn't have any dietary restrictions you could try offering a bland diet like a mixture of 25% plain boiled chicken breast and 75% plain white rice.

Jagger is really cute! I'm sorry to hear that he was not feeling well. Causes of vomiting and diarrhea include infections, eating something irritating to the intestinal tract, pancreatitis or metabolic problems such as liver or kidney disease. Restlessness and excess salivation are common signs of nausea or GI discomfort. If these symptoms continue, I would recommend that you have him seen by your veterinarian today. If he does not vomit and his behavior improves, you may be able to try a bland diet such as boiled chicken and rice for a few days to see if that'll settle his stomach.

Poor Jolene. Good job starting the bland diet! She likely feels poorly from the diarrhea, and it may be she has a fever causing the panting and shaking. If you can take her temperature rectally, I recommend doing that. A dog's normal temperature is between 101-102.5F. If her temperature is above 103F, take her into a vet right away. Otherwise, wait and see how her poop looks while on the bland diet. If she continues to have diarrhea, have her seen by a vet.

It sounds like your dog is very uncomfortable or even painful, probably in his belly from your description of his symptoms. The diarrhea could be caused by any number of things; intestinal parasites, a bacterial infection, even being constipated will sometimes manifest as diarrhea because liquid feces is all that will get by the impacted fecal material. It could be as simple as a dietary indiscretion, meaning he might have gotten into the trash and eaten something that didn't agree with him. If he continues to have loose stool, or starts vomiting, loses his appetite, acts lethargic, and/or develops a fever, get him in to be seen by your vet right away as this could indicate a more serious problem.

Nausea and diarrhea can occur secondary to conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, dietary indiscretion, parasites, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have Lily evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. At the very least they can start her on medications to make her feel better and check her hydration status. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Dog diarrhea and whimpering after vet meds: What should I do?

This may be a sequel to the medications given. I suggest you fast Maggie for 24 hours and then put the dog on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up problem, or if your dog gets lethargic, it needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on.

My dog has diarrhea, vomiting, gurgling stomach, not eating. Urgent?

Poor girl. These symptoms are suggestive of an internal illness (i.e. bacterial infection, kidney disease, liver disease, etc) for sure, and therfore its best to get Jace seen by your vet as soon as they open. If you can get her seen within the next 12-24 hrs, then that should be suitable enough. Continue to monitor her gums (should be nice and pink, if pale then it is an emergency), breathing (shortless of breath is an emergency) and energy level (severe lethargy and unresponsiveness is an emergency) for now. I hope that Jace is able tot get seen and can recovery from her illness soon! Best wishes and take care.
