What should I do for my dog's weeping collar sore before the vet?

Ouch! Poor Bess! This area looks pretty infected and if she had one last week my suspicion is she had allergies or some other cause leading to these areas of bacterial dermatitis (hot spots). You can try to clip some of the hair away from the area and gently clean it but I think Bess will probably need to see a veterinarian to get oral antibiotics. I don't think she has to be seen right this instant but you should try to schedule within the next day or so. Use an e-collar to prevent her from licking the area and making the issue worse. From the pictures, the skin appears red and inflamed. It does look like it is infected. While this may not be a true emergency, I would recommend getting in to see your veterinarian very soon. Pookie will need the area shaved and cleaned up. Your vet may prescribe an antibiotic for this as well depending. Until you can get to your vet, you can keep the area clean and dry and use a mild soap and water to clean the wound. If Pookie is licking it, you can put on ECollar on her to prevent licking.

I recommend keeping the collar off for now and not letting her swim or get wet for at least the next few days. I would not put any more neosporin or other ointments on the area, as this can trap moisture and delay healing. If the area gets worse or you notice other areas becoming affected, Kenya should be seen by a veterinarian. I hope this is helpful!

Sorry to see what's going on with Marlee. The first thing that you need to do is shave all the hair on and around the affected area. After doing this, you can use an antiseptic solution like chlorhexidine or dilute betadine to clean the lesion and the surrounding tissue. This will give you a better idea of how it looks. Based on the picture alone, the lesion looks pretty infected. You can certainly try to treat with just the antiseptic and a topical antimicrobial / steroid, but this may not be enough. In cases like this, many times an oral antibiotic is required to help clear this up. You will also likely have to put a collar on Marlee to prevent her from causing further damage to the area her self. Hope this helps.

The only things you can do in the meantime is to put an e-collar around his neck to prevent him from licking the area, you can also clean the wound with a clean wet cotton, but it will require antibiotic treatment to heal/

I think your treatment plans sounds good for home care. Wash the lesions once daily and rinse it well (you don't need to wash his whole body, just the spot). Protect the area from scratching. The only other thing I can think to do is add a dab of coconut oil that you rub into the lesion well. You will want to separate it from the other topical medication by a few hours. If the spot is not looking significantly better in the next week, then I recommend for Hendrix to see his vet. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.
