Why does my dog want my lap when foster dog barks? Is he stressed?

Is this new behavior by your boyfriend or has your boyfriend just started to come around more? If so, Luna certainly could be stressed by this or protesting. Make sure Luna and your boyfriend get plenty of bonding time and maybe he can feed her, walk her or even give her some dog treats throughout the day to help. Whether he is new or not, you may consider putting a calming collar on her like adaptil or sentry. If This doesn’t work, I would talk to your vet about putting her on an anti-anxiety medicine like fluoxetine. I hope this helps!

Poor Bear! It’s so hard to know sometimes what is causing them to be that way. It could be something he heard that caused him to be anxious. You’ll likely never know. Try to distract him with play or a long walk. If you can burn off some energy, that helps the brain to move forward and forget the anxiety. Do watch him very closely for any signs of illness, some dogs can react that way if they don’t feel good. Watch his eating habits and pay attention to any signs of lethargy, vomiting or loose stool. Belle is a young dog who, like a human toddler, has more energy than she (or your other dog) care for at the moment. If you want to stop any behavior you need to find a healthy alternative. If they ate their other toys you could try a few new safe "indestructible" toys (that you monitor them with at first to make sure they can't destroy them), chew toys that are designed to be eaten (like pet safe bones), puppy training classes, walks, hikes, dog parks, agility lessons. You need to tire Bella out. Right now it sounds like she doesn't have any toys or anything else to do so she's desperately barking at your other dog who she probably is hoping will play with her. Pets need appropriate things to do or they get bored and find inappropriate things to do. I hope this helps!

Absolutely. I recommend crating both dogs when one is crated. That should stop this behavior. The crate is supposed to be like a den or safe spot and having another dog barking outside the crate certainly would upset the dog in the crate. Spencer should be fine as long as you continue to pat and pay attention to him. It might perk him up to have activity in the house. Outside is neutral territory; inside is your previous dog's territory. There isn't much other than allowing him time to get used to having a new roommate. Try to keep things as normal as possible. Continue the walks outside so they can bond. You can also use Adaptil diffusers or DAP collars to provide calming pheromones.

Many dogs bark at sounds or unfamiliar objects or people, especially when they are first getting used to a new environment. If she is barking all the time, I suspect that she is somewhat anxious and "on-edge" about lots of different things - she may have been poorly socialized as a puppy, which often leads to excessive anxiety about new things and lots of barking as a result. If you think this might be the case, there are a few things you can do to help. A DAP pheromone collar along with a natural calming supplement like Zylkene or Composure can help to relieve some of her anxiety - these can be purchased online with out a prescription, and are helpful for many dogs with this issue. Inside the house, you can also use a white noise machine or some other type of background noise to help block out sounds from outside that may trigger the barking. Outside, I would carry treats with you when you take Mitsu for walks. Anytime she sees something and starts to bark, call her back to you and give her a treat. Over time, she will learn to look at you for her treat when she sees something that startles her, rather than barking and lunging.
