My dog is walking slow, head down, back arched. Is she in pain?

It could be that Ellie has injured her back or her hips, leading her to be in pain and not jump much. She could also have a slipped disc in her back causing her pain. It's good that her gums are pink, but it is concerning that she is in pain. I would rest her over the weekend. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a lead only, and bring her right back in when she's done. If she still appears painful after this time, then I would take her into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from with a lameness exam and x-rays, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. She may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given.

She could be experiencing arthritis, an issue with a ligament or tendon, or she could have a herniated disk in her spine. I recommend that you have Sprinkles evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics include radiographs. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least they can prescribe pain control medications to make Sprinkles feel better. In the meantime, reduce her activity as much as possible as that in itself can make a big difference.
