After seizures, my dog won't stop walking and pees. What to do?

Based on the history, a toxicity seems less likely and a primary disease of the brain more likely. If the seizures are not well controlled on phenobarbital it may be that she needs a higher dose. You should discuss phenobarbital levels with your veterinarian. If the levels are in therapeutic range, a second anticonvulsant such as levetiracitam should be considered. Furthermore, you may consider following up with a veterinary neurologist to discuss diagnostics including an MRI of the brain.

It's a bit hard to say, but this sounds like seizure activity, especially with the periods of confusion you're describing after the episodes occur. In a 4 year old dog I'd be concerned about epilepsy, although other possibilities such as a poisoning and brain tumors should be considered as well. Roscoe needs to see his vet ASAP in order to find out what is going on, and start treatment. If these are seizures, the longer they go undiagnosed and uncontrolled, the more likely he will have one that he won't come out of. Get him seen ASAP.

One of the most common causes of seizures in a 3 year old dog is epilepsy, but other possibilities include liver diseases (portosystemic shunts), toxin exposure, or brain tumors. If another episode occurs, take a video to show to her vet. There is no need to rush to a vet after a one time occurrence, as she will likely not be started on any seizure control medications. However, should Cali have another seizure within a 24 hour period, she should go to an ER vet because this would be considered a "cluster seizure".

I'm going to assume that your question is what should you do about this, and I'm going to assume that this is a dog. Without knowing the cause of the seizures - i.e. Epilepsy, brain tumor, menigitis, etc - it's really difficult to know what could be going on. Most epileptics will continue to have seizures occasionally, even on anti-seizure meds. But what you're describing - lack of appetite, no water consumption, and not acting normally - are all signs of a possibly serious problem. So please take your dog to see a vet as soon as possible.

What you are describing sounds as though Finn may have had a seizure. I'm glad to hear that he returned to normal fairly quickly. Closely monitor him for other changes in his behavior and if this occurs again, take him to your local veterinarian for further evaluation. If he has more than one seizure episode in a 24 hour period or has seizure activity lasting longer than 5-10 minutes, take him to an emergency veterinarian.

She is having cluster of seizures that ideally should be treated by your veterinarian at the clinic/hospital. What you are seeing now is most likely ''a post ictal' phase, that means the signs (pacing, restless, seems blind and so on) in the period of time after the seizure episode. These signs could last even 24hours. The major concern is that she could go into another cluster of seizure episode and have severe secondary effect from it. I would strongly advised to have her treated at the clinic until she is completely out from these acute episodes. I would need to ask a bunch more questions and would be happy to do a consultation if you’d like but let me give you a few ideas. 1) be sure it’s not heart- Fainting spells can look a lot like seizures. Consider a cardiology consult to make sure it’s not that. They’ll do an EKG and ultrasound of the heart to make sure nothing is amiss. 2) weird fungal diseases- I’m from Arizona, land of valley fever - a fungal disease that can - and often does- cause seizures. Other fungi like Blastomycosis and Histoplasmosis can do similar things. If Bella has traveled out of Texas- even for just a day or two- these are considerations. 3) Bella is simply an atypical epileptic and needs more/different medication. Just like in people, it can sometimes take some time to find the right combination of drugs to get the seizures controlled. 4) weird drug interactions- double check especially about any anti-anxiety or behavior modification medications and pain medications. 5) hypothyroidism, tick fever, other weird stuff. If you’ve done an MRI, you may have already consulted with a neurologist. If not? That would be the next step along with the cardiologist visit. Best of luck to you and Bella!
