Dog vomiting, weak, shivering, and heavy breathing. Is it an emergency?

Labored breathing and vomiting are very concerning signs. In an older, large-breed dog like your girl, I would be worried about bloat as a possible cause of her symptoms - this can be a life-threatening emergency, so needs to be treated right away. Many other things can also cause vomiting, including pancreatitis, liver or kidney disease, exposure to something toxic, or an intestinal obstruction. Based on your description, I would recommend taking her to the emergency vet tonight - she may have a serious problem that can't wait until morning.

I'm sorry to hear Chiquita isn't doing well. If she's seeming in distress, unable to breathe or is very pale/turning blue, or seems in discomfort or is disoriented, it would be best to bring her to a vet ASAP for care. Stress or pain can also sometimes cause these symptoms. Making sure there isn't a sudden stressor causing, or removing any sources of stress may help her to calm down, however if the symptoms continue or worsen, or new ones appear, seeking vet care is best.

I sam so sorry that she’s not doing well. From what you describe, I’m very concerned about her and you need to seek emergency veterinary care immediately. Call your vet’s office even if they are closed—they likely have a recording for either how to contact the vet in case of an emergency, or information for the nearest vet clinic. There are many possible causes for what’s going on, but it sounds like at the very least she needs some IV fluids and some lab work and possible X-rays may be needed. I am so sorry there isn’t something I can suggest you do for her at home at this point, but if she’s just lying there, she seems cold, and her breathing is labored, you have got to get her to a vet. Poor Mattie! It definitely sounds like something is wrong. Vomiting, acting weak, shaking, and breathing hard are all very concerning signs. No, I don't believe that eating minute rice would have caused this - it sounds like something more serious is going on. I would recommend taking her to an emergency vet today for an exam, as with these symptoms, it may not be safe to wait. The veterinarian there can examine her and may also recommend blood work, x-rays, or other testing to help diagnose the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment.

If she was vaccinated as a puppy, then it would be very unlikely for a dog this age to get distemper. However, what you are describing is concerning. Labored breath along with vomiting can indicate a severe disease that is affecting her heart and/or lungs. Either way, they are both emergencies, because these situations have the potential to be life-threatening if not treated soon enough. I recommend taking her to the emergency vet for this, because it may be too long to wait until normal business hours. I'm sorry to hear that CC is not well. Vomiting for 10 hours is pretty serious so I suggest you take her to an ER vet right away. Vomiting is a very non-specific symptom so I really can't tell you why she is vomiting but intractable vomiting is not good. She will need to be examined in person by a vet.

If Bells appears to be in any sort of respiratory distress, I must recommend that you get her to an ER right away to be stabilized. If she is simply panting due to some sort of stress or discomfort, this is not necessarily required. Regardless, it sounds like she is definitely experiencing some pretty severe discomfort. I'm not sure what they did for her at the clinic earlier, but it doesn't seem to have addressed whatever it is that is currently bothering her. If these sort of symptoms continue into the afternoon today, I would recommend getting her into a clinic for a follow up exam and diagnostics to assess the problem. If they believe she is in pain somewhere, perhaps imaging would be next best things in terms of diagnostics. Hope this makes sense.
