My sick dog is vomiting, not eating. Is an OTC dewormer enough?

I am not sure the type of dewormer or the vaccines that you used but vomiting often, lethargy, and not eating are not typical 2-4 days after vaccination and deworming. It is very concerning that she is having these signs and she could have an infection or possibly have a parasite that was not susceptible to the dewormer that you used. She really should be seen by a vet to determine the cause and treat. She may need an anti-vomiting injection, antibiotic, antacid, gastrointestinal protectant, dewormer, and/or other medications to treat. You could try to find a clinic that would work out a payment plan or apply for care credit and have her seen. Hope she feels better soon!

The most likely diseases are as follows: 1. Parvo, a virus that primarily attacks the immune system and intestines of dogs and is very lethal if left without supportive care. 2. Intestinal parasites which can cause intestinal blockage and even anemia (depletion of red blood cells). 3. Other viruses with varying severities. This is not an exhaustive list, just the most common things for a puppy. They will all lead to dehydration and other secondary issues which can all be severe enough to cause death. Whatever the underlying disease, he looks very ill and needs attention from a veterinarian immediately. I would recommend taking him to your nearest emergency veterinary hospital as soon as possible. Ideally he should be seen by a vet to stabilise his condition and correct dehydration as well as supplemental feeding and a full health check to rule out additional illnesses reducing his appetite. Poor pups. While a heavy parasite load can cause severe GI upset, and anemia which can cause a pup to become extremely lethargic, have bloody diarrhea, etc, I would also want to rule out underlying illnesses as a possibility. It would be best to bring them to a vet ASAP especially if they are lethargic or unable to keep any food or water down as puppies can quickly become very dehydrated. They may also need supportive care such as an IV or injected medications if they are very ill from the parasites or other causes. You can try continuing to offer water, or rubbing a little honey on their gums for energy until you can get to the vet, however due to the severity of symptoms it would be best to seek emergency care.

It sounds as Sadie is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to an intestinal worm infestation. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. If the vet thinks she needs deworming he will do that too. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

Hi, I'm worried if Zoey is still weak and vomiting. Young pups don't have much in reserve so if they stop eating they can deteriorate very quickly. It could be related to the de worming medicine if she had a lot of worms that died quickly, or she may have an illness like parvo, giardia or coccdia. If she's not eaten today, take her to the emergency vet tonight. If she's eaten some and is still walking about, take her in the morning.
