Why is my dog vomiting bile daily, 2 months after eating xylitol?

Vomiting can be observed with gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, food sensitivity, foreign body ingestion and obstruction or other conditions such as pancreatitis or kidney disease. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics to be performed include abdominal imaging and general bloodwork. Vomiting in dogs can have a variety of causes, including intestinal parasites, dietary indiscretion, foreign material ingestion, or gastroenteritis, among others. If the vomiting hasn’t improved on a bland diet, I would recommend Puchiwilly be evaluated by a veterinarian to determine the underlying cause for his vomiting, have any necessary testing done (X-rays, bloodwork), and start any treatment that he may need to resolve the issue. If your pet has vomited this much in the past 45 minutes I would be very suspicious of a foreign body or a very intense dietary indiscretion (eating something he shouldn't have). I would recommend you start supportive care (like Famotiidne 05-1.0mg/kg every 12 hrs and a bland diet like Purina EN Gastrointestinal canned food OR boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese. However there is a big possibility that this could have been a toxicity and if any more symptoms start to arise (such as ataxia (staggering) or shaking, crying out) then I highly recommend you seek a personal veterinarian for a physical examination and further diagnostics. - Dr. H

Dogs can vomit due to many conditions from stress, to ingestion of a foreign body or toxin, eating too quickly, intestinal parasites, or viral infections. If Onyx is acting normally, you can continue to monitor her at home. I recommend holding off food and treats until tomorrow morning, and then giving her only about 1/2 of her normal portion. She should have access to small amounts of water to prevent her from drinking too quickly and causing herself to vomit. She should be seen by a vet as soon as possible if you notice that she doesn't have an appetite or energy, or begins having diarrhea. I hope this helps and that Onyx feels better soon!

If xrays and general labwork have been performed already, I would start looking for other possibilities causing this with more advanced diagnostics such as an abdominal ultrasound and GI panel to begin with. Another disease they could investigate is Addison's disease. This would expand the diagnostics to the point of being able to more extensively look into what may be causing this in him. Xylitol causes hypoglycemia and potentially liver failure. If Arlo May have ingested xylitol in the past 48 hours I’d recommend contacting the Pet Poison Helpline (www.petpoisonhelpline.com). If it’s been more than 48 hours I’d recommend seeing your vet to have them check liver values.
