My dog keeps vomiting after eating. When should I take him to the vet?

It is concerning that Fablo has been vomiting and not pooping. It makes me wonder if he has diarrhea or did have diarrhea. If he continues to vomit, becomes lethargic, doesn't want to eat or has blood in the stool or vomit he needs to see a veterinarian as soon as possible. My concern is he ate something he wasn't supposed to and either has pancreatitis or a foreign body. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

If Shieyah is vomiting and not stopping I would recommend a veterinarian. They can provide a medication to stop the vomiting and make sure it is nothing to be concerned about, like pancreatitis or even a foreign body. If she vomited once. I would withhold food for about 6 hours and rec small multiple meals of boiled chicken and white rice or a prescription bland diet. If she gets worse after this then she needs to see a veterinarian. Vomiting can be observed with conditions such as gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction, among other possibilities. For this reason, I highly recommend that you have Bambi evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible as I am afraid he is likely becoming dehydrated. They would be able to check for these possibilities and also check his hydration status and give him medications to make him feel better. Good luck!

Loss of appetite and vomiting can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Layka evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. You can offer a bland diet which may help. This diet could be composed of rice, boiled chicken, ham, turkey, lean hamburgers or low fat cottage cheese. Vomiting in dogs can have a variety of causes, including intestinal parasites, dietary indiscretion, foreign material ingestion, or gastroenteritis, among others. If the vomiting hasn’t improved on a bland diet, I would recommend Puchiwilly be evaluated by a veterinarian to determine the underlying cause for his vomiting, have any necessary testing done (X-rays, bloodwork), and start any treatment that he may need to resolve the issue. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If it is more than a couple of hours after taking her medication before she vomited, Bailey probably got most of her dose. However if she continues to vomit, or isn't eating at all after 48 hours she may need some fluid therapy. I would recommend contacting her vet tomorrow if she still isn't eating. If she vomits anymore tonight or seems to feel worse then she may need to go to an emergency clinic tonight.

I am very sorry to hear that Roman is experiencing these problems, I am sure it is very unsettling for you both. There are a number of potential causes of such clinical signs, including dietary indiscretion ( eating something he shouldn’t have), pancreatitis, parasite infestation, infection, and ingestion of a toxin or poison. Because you have only noticed these signs over the course of a few hours I would continue to monitor Roman at home until your vet appointment this afternoon. Here is what you can do in the meantime; Rest Roman’s gastrointestinal tract by holding back food for a few hours. Then you can continue with a bland and easily digested food of the boiled chicken breast and white rice diet and provide plenty of fresh water. Low sodium chicken broth can help fluid intake if he won’t eat or drink. I also find that boiled, mashed skinless sweet potato is helpful for diarrhoea if he starts to have that, otherwise do not add in.
