My dog vomited twice, seems normal, but has dark gums. Is it serious?

This is very concerning as severe vomiting can result in hypovolemic shock (decreased circulating blood volume) which can be life-threatening. This can result in pale gums and weakness as you describe. The vomiting can happen from many conditions such as a gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible for further evaluation and treatment. This is a medical emergency. At the very least, they can start IV fluids and start medications to try to stop the vomiting while they find out what is affecting her. I hope that she makes a full recovery! Good luck!

The signs seems settling so I would not be extremely concerned at this stage. As a first approach, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. If he seems bright it may just be a mild case of gastroenteritis. I would try withholding food for the rest of the day. If the vomiting doesn't settle it would be best to go to the vet just in case something else is going on.

Fido needs to see a veterinarian immediately. White gums can be a sign of anemia (not enough red blood cells) or low blood pressure and bad circulation. These can be life threatening and need immediate attention. Please have him seen immediate by your local veterinary emergency hospital. Good luck.

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I can definitely see that Koda's vomit is reddish in color and has some red flecks in it. It is possible that the vomit has blood in it, though I would not expect it to have flecks in it. It is possible that Koda ate something that was red/pink in color that made his vomit this color. However, even the possibility of blood in vomit is cause for concern as this can be caused by stomach ulcers, foreign bodies, or certain toxins. I recommend keeping a very close eye on Koda, and having her examined immediately if this happens again or your believe you are seeing something that looks like frank blood or dark coffee grounds in her vomit. She should also be seen immediately if you think there is a chance that she may have eaten something she shouldn't have or has gotten into human medications. Until she can be seen by a vet tomorrow, I recommend not giving her any food and only offering small amounts of water. There are emergency clinics in most cities that are open 24 hours. Hi there. Sorry to hear that Diamond is not feeling well. If what she vomited up was causing her problems she may feel better now, and this should be reflected by her being bright, happy, and wanting to eat and drink and play. If she is not happy, seems to be painful in her abdomen, is not wanting to eat or drink, or is not wanting to play, then i would recommend having her checked by a veterinarian. The concern is that either she ate something that was rotting and now brought it up, or that she has necrotic tissue inside her guts from a different disease and is vomiting up rotting from her own self. If she continues to vomit, is lethargic, or seems sick at all I would strongly recommend having her see a veterinarian. If she is otherwise bright and happy I would feed her boiled/boneless/skinless chicken breasts and boiled rice for 2 days and then re-introduce her food slowly. If she becomes unwell have her checked out.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Chase! How old is he? If his gums are white that is an emergency and he should go back to the vet today! White gums are a sign of shock or anemia. Anemia can be from internal bleeding or destruction of the red blood cells. Shock could be from pancreatitis or a blockage from ingestion of a foreign body. He needs to be re-examined and have blood work and X-rays done. I wish you all the best!
