Is the vaccination spot my vet uses for my dog the right place?

Hi, the injection needs to be administered subcutaneously so some areas are better than others, where the skin is lose. It is very important for vaccine to be administered correctly. Hope this makes sense.

This is an excellent question! Many vets now vaccinate on the legs instead of between the shoulder blades or elsewhere, as it makes it easier to monitor and treat vaccine reactions. Many vets also will assign a specific vaccine to a specific leg, so if there is a vaccine reaction (which is very rare) it is easier to tell which specific vaccine may have caused the problem.

Hi there. Normally, it is not necessary to shave a spot on a long-haired dog in order to give a vaccination, as you should be able to feel where the skin is when you pull it up to make a "tent" before giving the shot. But if you feel that shaving would help you be more confident about being able to give the injection accurately, then go head and do it :)

As long as it is a reputable place that stores the vaccines properly where it doesn't risk them being ineffective, there is no difference. The pain is likely from the vaccine if you gave it in-between his shoulder blades. I would recommend calling your regular veterinarian for an anti-inflammatory medication or you can wait a day and see if the pain subsides. I would not give any over the counter human medication as it could have adverse side effects. Good luck and I hope bruno feels better!

This may be tender from the injection, and then again it may be that he remembered that the injection was uncomfortable or hurt. I suggest you mention this to the vet when you take him for the next round of vaccinations so the vet can examine the injection site and determine whether there is a problem. It will alert the vet also that your dog may be a little bit sensitive.
