Dog urine test results: What do they mean for his UTI treatment?

So it would be worth having abdominal x-rays taken to ensure this is not yhe case. The way you have it written, I suspect the leukocyte count was obtained from the urine dipstick. This tends to be inaccurate. The urine should be evaluated under the microscope for cells. If he has white blood cells under the microscope, it can indicate an infection, but inflammation is more common in cats. Cats can develop recurrent inflammation in the bladder that is painful, but no underlying cause can be identified. I would ask your veterinarian if this is a possibility. It may be that Goofy has a bladder stone or has a tumor in his bladder that is an underlying issue. If a bacterial culture hasn't yet been done, that should be considered as well to determine definitively whether or not there is an active infection. Talk to your vet about an X-ray or an abdominal ultrasound to further investigate. While the ALT and globulin are slightly high, they aren't terribly high out of the normal range. Its reasonable to repeat these blood tests in 1-2 weeks and see if the values have normalized. Neither of those bloodwork findings are terribly alarming to me, especially if Goofy isn't showing any symptoms. Actually your dog's urinalysis looks very good. There are various reasons for a dog's urine to become alkaline (pH greater than If the urine has been retained in the bladder for too long, it becomes stale. Also, if the urine has been standing too long, ie was not fresh. Contamination with detergent from a collecting bottle that was not rinsed well. Contaminated with ammonia Conditions that can cause alkaline urine: Urinary tract infection with urease-positive bacteria - most common cause (likely not in your case) Persistent vomiting - due to loss of gastric acid. (is your dog vomiting a lot?) Respiratory alkalosis and some other conditions which are rare. If your dog is taking medications, it can cause alkaline urine: e.g. acetazolamide, thiazide diuretics, potassium citrate, sodium acetate, sodium bicarbonate, sodium lactate And finally, Special diets formulated to produce an alkaline urine eg Hill's Precription Diet Canine u/d Alkaline urine can cause kidney and bladder stones. I suggest you have your vet check the pH of your dogs urine again, this time with fresh urine won shortly before testing.

The blood test is just fine. I do not see any abnormalities. The urine tests are pretty normal as well. No bacteria or crystals. Some white and red cells present can be normal. There may be some early kidney disease with the presence of microalbuminuria but more testing would need to be done. These test results need to put together with the dogs clinical signs. Where the arrows are pointing it looks like it may be small stones. I would recommend a urinalysis checking for a urinary tract infection and potentially a urine culture. The urine culture will tell you exactly what bacteria is in the urine and what antibiotic to treat it. I would also recommend a X-ray to see if there are larger stones in the bladder. As long as the epithelial cells didn't look suspicious for cancer, this is a non-significant finding and nothing to be worried about. : ) Cells come off of the bladder normally in pets and can be detected at low levels around 1+ in the urine.
