My dog on urinary diet has new tummy pain, yelps, and hides. Help!

If she is a small breed dog, neck or back pain are common sources of pain. The muscles that line the spine can spasm causing the dog intense pain. In worst case scenarios, pressure can be put on the spinal cord resulting in neurological problems. If this is not the case, abdominal pain from GI upset or even constipation could be the source of pain. Her examination should tell the doctor the source of her pain so that treatment recommendations can be made. Keep her very quiet up until her appointment this afternoon. If he is having abdominal pain then he really should be examined by a vet to determine he cause. He could have an infection, pancreatitis, kidney disease, liver disease, etc and your vet can run labeork and take an X-ray to help diagnose. Hope he feels better soon.

It definitely sounds like Luna is very painful!! Different dogs can have varying types of pain tolerance and it may be that Luna does not tolerate pain as well. However I would hate to miss something more serious on a presumption that she is just not as tolerant of pain. Cost is definitely something to consider as ER visits can rack up a higher cost than your veterinarian may. Unfortunately, that may be the best for Luna if she just isn't feeling and acting quite right. I would add that if she is otherwise eating and drinking normally, and not having any vomiting or diarrhea or any of the other signs mentioned on the previous thread then I would be less worried about rushing her to the ER and may give her a little more time. If her bloodwork was fine a couple of days ago then perhaps the metacam could help control her pain a little better and reduce the inflammation a UTI can cause. However, know that kidney values can change in short periods of time, thus I would still recommend having a veterinarian that has looked at Luna make the recommendation for or against metacam or NSAIDs. Also consider, that there are other causes for pain in a Beagle that may not be associated with her UTI. In a Beagle I would want to check for back pain, neck pain, or abdominal pain (pancreatitis, kidney disease, foreign bodies, or even liver disease). All of these may benefit from pain medication and even NSAIDs, but some of these could require more aggressive medical or surgical management.

As she is unspayed i strongly suspect a uterine infection, it can often be missed on blood test and xray. i strongly recommend taking her urgently to the vet for a recheck, an ultrasound needs to be done and bloods needs to be repeated, if this is what i suspect, she will need an emergency surgery to have her uterus removed.

Hello, no it's not a good idea at all to wait, you should take her to the vet today, if she is suffering from a uterine infection or from some other gastrointestinal condition, it's likely to be urgent and can be life threatening.

I recommend that you take your pet to your local veterinarian for an examination and blood work. There are numerous reasons an animal may have pain in the lower part of her body, including kidney infection/stones, degenerative disc disease, spains/strains, osteoarthritis, or trauma, etc. Often, lack of eating is a sign of pain or distress. Once your pet's source of pain/discomfort is diagnosed and treated, you pet will be more likely to eat again.

It sounds very suspicious of a uterine infection, she might need an urgent surgery, if she is in severe pain and very lethargic you should probably not wait until tomorrow. If she is stable just keep her still and don't touch the belly area, that is all that you can do.
