My dog is feeling unwell after recent vaccinations. What should I do?

Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If she refuses to eat the bland diet, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. It isn't entirely uncommon for dogs to feel sore and puny after a round of vaccines - just like people can. They can cause soreness at the area of injection and mild general malaise, which would explain Snapple's unwillingness to move and whimpering when you try to touch her. This will probably abate over the next day, but if you notice any other symptoms such as swelling, difficulty breathing, vomiting, or diarrhea, please call your vet as these may indicate a more serious reaction. This is very unlikely as most severe vaccine reactions occur within an hour of the shots, but it is always better to be safe than sorry. If she's still acting puny tomorrow, feel free to call your vet and let them know. They may be able to recommend or prescribe an anti-inflammatory/pain reliever that will make her feel much better. Tis could be a minor vaccine reaction. I would feed her some chicken and white rice to help settle her tummy. You can also give her Benadryl twice a day. See link below. Hello, sorry to hear about Sooky. There are some medications that may be administered to your dog to stop nausea. However these medications require a prescription or injection. Maropitant and ondansetron are the most common, but other medications do exist. Otherwise, you may give him a day or so with a bland diet to rest his GI tract. This may include plain white rice, skinless and boneless boiled chicken. If he does have nausea however, he may not want to eat. Offer small amounts at first. The high temperature if associated with his vaccines should decrease on its own within 1-2 days. Monitor for worsening signs, and if you note any then contact your veterinarian immediately. Coco may be stressed from the visit or having a mild reaction to the vaccinations. You can try to offer her a small meal of boiled chicken and sweet potato or rice to see if this settles her stomach. However, if her vomiting persists or if any other signs of illness develop (like diarrhea, inappetance, or lethargy) I recommend having her examined by a veterinarian right away. He might have eaten something spoiled that is causing this. withhold food for 8 hours then offer him boiled boneless chicken and rice every 4-6 hours in small portions. if he is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put him back gradually on his normal food. If he continues vomiting or is not eating, take him to the vet to get treatment.

Good on you for getting Shaggy's shots, but I'm sorry he isn't eating! You can see a drop in appetite after getting the vaccines, but it should return within 24-48 hours.
