My dog got ticks and won't eat. Is it ehrlichiosis after 2 days?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | 10 months and 3 days old | 14.99 lbs

Goodevening, i think my dog have ehrlichiosis. I rushed him in the vet clinic earlier this afternoon. He's not eating or even tried to drink water for 3 days. My dog doesn't have ticks, its just that we went the other day to my parents house and they have this homeless dog staying nearby and when we got home, my dog have lots of ticks already. After 2 days, thats when he didnt ate or drink. Why is he showing sign of ehrlichiosis after 2 days? Is his condition that bad? Thank you

He would not be showing signs of Ehrlichia after 2 days. It usually takes 1-3 weeks from the time the dog was bitten until the time they show signs. Knoxxx must have something else going on OR he was bitten by a tick before and you didn't notice it.

The symptoms you are describing are non-specific signs and could be signs of almost any disease. I hope your vet will be able to figure out what is going on so he will get the proper treatment.

Here is an information sheet on Ehrlichiosis in dogs for you to read. This may be helpful for you:

Best wishes.
