My dog has tick fever and stomach pain. What pain medication is safe?

However, this is concerning and warrants letting your veterinarian know as he may for example benefit from adding pain control medications added to his treatment protocol. There aren't home remedies that will help very much, other than good husbandry, good quality food, and a comfortable environment. Sometimes steroids are needed to suppress the immune system, they will also help with fever. The fever is just a sign that the immune system is working, so it is not always a good idea to make it go away. If she is uncomfortable, you can use a tepid bath to help with the feeling of being hot. You can discuss appetite stimulants with your vet. Or you can use bland human foods like boiled chicken breast, cooked white rice, scrambled eggs, toast, etc.

Most of these diseases though are treated with an oral medication called doxycycline. That is something your veterinarian can prescribe for Julie if they think she is suffering from one of the typical tick borne diseases. Hoping for a speedy recovery!

These little guys can easily hurt their backs and so they tense their abdominal muscles. They also don’t want you to touch them for fear it might tweak their back even more. Because we don’t know yet, I’d refrain from giving anything tonight as we don’t want to interfere with whatever your vet decides to give tomorrow. Tramadol is a safe pain medication but it can slow the GI tract so let’s skip it for now. For tonight, just let Rigby rest alone. Best of luck to you and Rigby!

If you want to start with the metronidazole and the dewormer first that is fine. Recheck her temperature in 24 hours. If it is still elevated give the loxicam. The loxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory. Good luck!

I'm sorry to hear that this is going on with Bubbles. I would assume that the pain and discomfort she is having is related to the other two diseases you are currently treating. She could be having some abdominal pain from the HGE. Tick borne diseases can cause joint pain and inflammation so this also may be what is making her uncomfortable. I would recommend calling your vet and describing the symptoms of pain. They may be able to have you come pick up a pain medication for Bubbles or they may want to do a recheck to ensure nothing else is going on. I hope Bubbles gets back to feeling like herself soon! Thank you for submitting your question regarding Benson. There are a variety of safe flea and tick preventive medications. I prefer topical formulas because the flea or tick is repelled. When you give an oral chew the flea or tick has to bite your pet to die. This will still kill the pest, but it allows diseases to spread to your pet. For that reason, I prescribe Vextra 3D. Frontline Plus is also a good product, but does not cover quite as many pests as Vectra. Vinegar and water will not be effective. I hope this information helps!
