My dog throws up after eating but seems better. Should I worry?

Poor Wally! Vomiting can be caused by a large number of conditions such as intestinal parasites, pancreatitis, foreign bodies, and dietary indiscretion. Most of these conditions are fairly dangerous, and are possible causes for vomiting/lethargy lasting close to 24 hours. Your vet can perform bloodwork and x-rays, as well as an ultrasound to rule out the conditions above. In the meantime, I recommend keeping a close eye on Wally, and offering him small amounts of water and food (about 1/2 of his normal portion). Poor girl. Unfortunately my major concern here is that Winnie may have a foreign body. I would highly recommend fasting her for 6hrs and then offer her a small portion of boiled plain chicken or lean ground turkey and white rice and small amounts of non-flavored Pedialyte to keep her hydrated until you can get her seen by your vet. The vet needs to do a complete physical examination and likely will recommend x-rays if a foreign body ingestion is suspected. Best case scenario is that Winnie has a really upset stomach from something she ingested and not a true obstruction. However, the next best thing is to get her seen by your vet as soon as they are open in the morning. I do hope that Winnie feels better soon! Best of luck and take care

I am very sorry to hear that Tye is experiencing these problems, I am sure it is very unsettling for you both. There are a number of potential causes of such clinical signs, including dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis, parasite infestation, infection, and ingestion of a toxin or poison. I would believe the most likely cause in a lung dog like Tye is gastrointestinal worms or a gastrointestinal infection. Because you have only noticed these signs over the course of a few days I would continue to monitor Tye at home. Here is what you can do for him over the next 24 hours; Rest Tye’s gastrointestinal tract by holding back food for a few hours. Then you can continue with a bland and easily digested food of the boiled chicken breast and white rice diet and provide plenty of fresh water. This will tempt him to eat while also being healthy for gut recovery. You can also purchase Hill’s I/D from a veterinarian, which is a premade food which will have the same effect. I also find that boiled, mashed skinless sweet potato is helpful for diarrhoea if he is experiencing any of that. In the longer term I would also advise switching his dog food brand, in case he is not doing well because of his current food. I'm really sorry that Wylie is not feeling well. At this stage I really think you need to get him to a vet for an exam and treatment. There is only so much you can do at home - obviously he is not responding and is actually worse after 3 days. The best advice is to get him to a vet as soon as possible. In a young dogs (like less than a year old) that are vomiting, not eating, lethargic is often due to an intestinal obstruction; I would be very worried about that. Please get him to a vet ASAP.

Poor guy. With him being this ill and it lasting through the night, the best course of action is to take Shaggy to your vet to get examined and treated. The vet will need to do a complete physical exam and likely some testing (i.e. bloodwork) to help diagnose the underlying problem so that we know how best to help Shaggy moving forward. Just about every disease can cause these symptoms, so it is hard to say what the possible cause is, but the vet should be able to gather more information after you go in. Chronic vomiting, has multiple causes but may cause an electrolyte imbalance which could account for the symptoms you are seeing. If he is drinking more water than usual, he should be seen by your vet for an exam and bloodwork to rule out kidney disease, diabetes or other GI issues. When a pet is vomiting, withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet (1:1 ratio of plain boiled boneless chicken and plain white rice). Feed in small, frequent amounts waiting at least one hour between feedings. If he won't eat, serve the food warm or mix in a teaspoon of baby food to stimulate the appetite. If the vomiting stops, transition slowly to the regular diet. If not or if the appetite does not return, then you will need to see your veterinarian.

He should be examined by a vet to determine the cause, especially if he is lethargic. He could have an infection, parasite, pancreatitis, kidney disease, liver disease, endocrine disease, obstruction/foreign body. Your vet can run labwork and take xrays to help diagnose and prescibe medications to treat. He may need fluids to prevent dehydration and medications to control the vomiting.
